    Hi folks,

I purchased the below gear in September, but it seems the chip or motherboard does not support virtualization..well i get an error when using vmware or xenserver.

    My processor is :

AMD FX-8350 Prozessor, Boxed, Sockel AM3+

    Motherboard is :

    ASRock 970 Pro3 R2.0, AM3+, ATX

    Fan is :
    Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - Intel/AMD

    Powersupply:

be quiet! SYSTEM POWER 7 500W

Anyone know a good chip that will allow me to use Xenserver and vmware? or anyone know how i switch on virtualization on the chip?

    Thanks,

    mada999

There should be some settings in the BIOS that enable/disable virtualization support.

Maybe take a look at this?

thanks for that i read this on that page..
Most of the time, hardware virtualization technology extensions should be enabled in motherboard BIOS in order to run recent OS and applications. Specifically Windows 8 and 8.1 require vt-x/amd-v enabled processors even to install it on virtual machine.

I've windows 8.1 installed on my pc so it must be enabled, wonder why it doesn't work for vmware or xen server

Its not, you only need virtualization enabled if your adding the Hyper-V role to Windows 8.

You need to go through the bios and find the option to turn it on, its disabled by default on most boards.

thanks, checked the bios and "secure virtual machine" was already enabled. I found another thing called 'Iommu' or something like that and i have enabled it.

running the install now again hopefully it'll run now
