    Folks,

House mate got sky BB in 2 weeks ago, Ive been at home for Christmas and only got home last night, when i arrived in I found the Sky Router smashed to bits and I cant get any life out of it. How can I config my Eircom Router to get up and running until I get a replacement sky router as I am dying to play my ps4 :(

There's nothing you can do until you get a new hub/router from Sky, so get ringing.

Sounds like lightning. Get your line tested.

If it was lightening, I would get a surge protector for the router and line.

Ring up Sky and ask for the router settings, you can't do a wireshack trace for the PPPoE username and password because the router is in bits.

Very easy to setup once you have the PPPoE settings. VPI is 8, VCI is 35 and MTU is 1492.

If it's the same as the UK then it's against Sky's T&Cs to use a third party modem. So they may not give you the PPPoE credentials.

Yeah, it's the same as the UK and they don't give you PPPoE settings, but extracting the username and password is simple enough when you get the hang of it. It took me a few hours the first time, but now I can retrieve in no more than 5 mins.

No problem at all for it

Strikes on phonelines can cause surges large enough to blow up handsets, sockets and modems. It can also blow NICs of attached devices if you're really unlucky. And obviously its a fire risk.

That's unusual. Perhaps there was a party and they went messing with it outside?

If it was lightening, the phone would also have probably been in bits too.

Lightening comes into your home and smashes up your router?
    since when?

Very easy tell if it was a strike, if there';s black scorch marks on it. If not then it was likely a person

I know people who's landline phones blew into smithereens due to a surge up the telephone line. It looks too melted, looks more like it was thrown into a fire or something.

It can make bits of everything :

When you get just NICs blown it might be just the induced power in the lines

I remember an epic thunderstorm one October night/morning in 1995 or 1996 here in Meath and I seen blue beam shooting out of my electrical socket in the hallway and landing on the radiator. A house in my hometown was hit by lightening as well.
