    hi

My son is having a problem on his 2001 audi a6. When ever it rains ( quite a lot lately) the electric windows, some times they will go down and then not up , usually on the front drivers and passenger side.

Leaving the car running for a few minutes ( 5 to 10 mins ) will allow the window to go up , but its getting more erratic now :(

I have come across a reference on the web referring to a control module that gets damp and can cause similar issues.

But sadly no location of this module does anyone know where it might be located so that I can check it out for water ingress ?. If anyone has any idea's on trouble shooting this problem all help will be appreciated

    thanks in advance

    brendan

    Hi Brendan,

I'm not a mechanic, and am new to Audi's, so I'm sure you'll get better answers tomorrow, but I have had window troubles myself lately on my A5 so might be able to help.
Below is an image of the control module on the A5 circled in red, I've also seen them attached directly to the window motor. I'm not sure where it is on the A6 though I checked Elsawin and they don't seem to be in the doors.

This link might help, it suggests a cause and the control module may be in the passenger footwell or under the seat. "Apparently common problem in A6's is the scuttle drain hole (which is underneath the battery) get blocked and water runs into the car through the heater vents."

I'm not sure why it would work after running the car for a while if it was a wet control module, might be worth sticking a multimeter across the motor on the windows, if it's not getting enough voltage until the car runs for a while it could be a battery problem maybe, I think the voltage on a running car should get up to about 13V even though the batteries are 12V.

telll him to pull up the carpet on the floor on the passenger side front , there is a black box under the carpet which controls windows/doors etc this usually fills with water ,
