    Can anyone help with this,

The socket itself is badly corroded and needs replacing, it sits flush alongside the gear stick,

I need to take it out, do I have to take off the whole housing from around the gear stick to get at it or can I just pop it out some how,

in anticipation of your help I thank you

First step is to either disconnect the battery or remove the fuse for the lighter. Take out the lighter itself and have a look at the housing. It should be possible to pry the housing forward slightly with a flat head srewdriver. There will most likely be two spring retaining clips, you should be able to push one in a little with the screwdriver to help you slide the housing out.

Once the housing is clear of the centre condole, there should be a block plug at the back, disconnect this, making sure not to let the wire slip back into the hole.

fitting, as they say, is the reverse of removal

    Hi Cletus

Thanks for your input, when I tried to force it out enough to find the clip type thingy's I couldn't find them but felt I would do damage if I forced it anymore,

I found that the plastic casing around it and the gear stick was just snap on / snap off so off it came.. in doing that I found I could only get the whole lot out only by pushing out the silver inner part then I could take out the black outer holder,
the reason I couldn't get it all out in one go is there was / is a small bulb holder on the outer casing of the lighter,

anyways things are working fine now, Thanks again for trying to help me with this little problem,

I'm kinda happy that I had to sort this because it gave me a chance to check out what fuse went where,

I found that whoever had the car before had just banged any fuse they had to hand into the board, I found 3amp fuse where a 10amp should be.. and a 15 where a 7amp should be So something was going to cause problems down the line had I not checked all of them :)
