Is the 280x worth the extra 100 euro over the 270x?

Title says it all. Thinking of an upgrade, which gives the best bang for buck? :)

Look up 280x vs 270x benchmarks. I think its worth the extra 100.

I think the R9 290 is the way to go if your budget allows it. Beast of a card and can be got for 340.

I still think it honestly depends on what you are gaming on. If you are gaming at 1080p, a 270X will get you max graphics on nearly everything but the most punishing of games. You save money and can always upgrade again in a few years when it starts to get lower frames, or if you have the cash to go to 1440p.
Flicking through the link Batman put up, you'll see it. Max graphics, on everything at 1080p is playable. You get better frames in the games that are actually optimised like Tomb Raider. Worse frames in games that are badly optimised like Metro.

Edit: Everything above 30fps is playable. If you are an enthusiast, or going for high refresh rate monitors or just want to future proof that little bit more, go for the more expensive cards.

A lower end card will almost always be "better bang for buck". A Ferrari is only 2-3 times faster than 20 thousand euro family card, and yet it's tens on times more expensive.

I would get the 280X if I were you, the 270X won't be enough for maxing out 1080p in modern games. I'd grab a HIS IceQX2 or an Asus model. Don't spend over 300 on it.

Would a Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W be ok with a 280x? Are some of the 7xxx cards still a good option? Have an oc 2500k @ 4.4ghz but my 6950 1gb is really struggling with BF4.

yea 550 is fine. Im sure if there's a 7970 for a good price there wudnt be much difference between a 280x.

Absolutely, quality power supply, 550 is perfect for a 7970/280x system.

As for getting a 7970 vs a 280x, I would just go by price. No performance difference other than the 280xs drawing a bit less power.

Waste of money. 280x with 3GB MUCH better value.

4gb of memory on a 270x is a total waste. It's a money trap for those that think more graphics memory = better performance.

The 280x would be your best bet if your budget can stretch. It is nearly twice the price of a 270 though for around 50% more performance.

That extra 50% performance makes a big difference though especially in the big gpu killing titles like Metro 2033, Crysis 3 etc.

What are the specs of the pc that it's going in to?

Sorry for hijacking the tread . 2500k @4.4ghz,8gig ram, asus 6950 1 gig. In order to get BF4 to stay around 50-70fps I am running a mixture of medium/low settings with no AA or v-sync.
Do you think the 270x is going to give me that much of a jump in performance to justify the money?
Also just considering splashing out on the 280x. Is the lack of stock keeping the price up? Will there be any other releases in the next couple of months that might drive down the price abit?

270X is pretty much the Same as a 6970 performance wise and the 6970 is only a small bit faster than a 6950 so no its not worth it

280x Price is kept up due to coin Mining and the price might come down in april/may when the GTX8xx series comes out but i doubt nvidia will push hard on pricing (they usually never do)

I would suggest going with the 280x. I have the 270x and it is a great card but it isn't maxing anything out it can run BF4 at around 45 - 50 FPS. Still a great card if you don't have a tight budget!

Or get a gtx 760. 70 Euro cheaper. And not far behind it price/performance. Plus shadow play is a great tool.

    R9 290

Would a Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 550W with I5 2500k be ok with the above card? The psu is about two years old at this stage.

Yes. Superflowers are good PSUs. A 290 system will draw under 450 watts under load with a 2500k system. I would personally grab a non reference 290 if I could though just for some minor overclocking and less noise.

Make sure your case setup has good airflow.
