My college keeps telling me that i'm only entitled to 15 days off for the whole year and if I exceed that then they'll throw me out of the course..

i'm doing a fetac level 6 and have to say most of the class has missed 10-12 days at this stage. I'm just wondering is the college talking crap or is this rule in other colleges aswell?

I think under FETAC rules there's a minimum of 85% attendance required in the school year.

This would be standard to ensure quality assurance. Its in the region of 15-20 days to get your p45.
The course lasts from mid Sept to April, so consider that if it was a job you wouldn't expect to be allowed to take 15 days off that you were due to be somewhere in 8 months.

I'm in a course I hate and already took 10 days off. I was hoping the 15 days was a myth lol

See it out, between Feb midterm and Easter holidays you'll be out the gap in no time.

Still another 8-10 weeks left then. Seems like years away lol. My first and last ever course hopefully lol

I have had that many off maybe a few more. In regards to quality assurance the students set to get distinctions (which includes myself) all have children and have had to take time off because we don't get childcare assistance where every other course does. There is not a hope in hell they would kick us out, all the director of adult ed cares about is getting distinctions and money which he has told us and therefore he isn't going to throw us out.

Be careful as the new FETAC Common Awards System requires that you complete a certain amount of hours in order to achieve your full award.

Each minor programme (module) is worth a certain amount of credits - 10 for Level 4 or 15 for Level 5.

Each credit is worth 10 notional learning hours and the centre will calculate how many hours need to be completed in class and how hours are completed by the learner in studying and completing assignments. That is where they get their 85% attendance requirement. Fall below it and you won't have completed sufficient hours required for to pass, regardless of what your grades are.

I thin it's a stupid system. I remember LCA was exactly the same you needed 90% attendance.. Most of the time in the class is a complete waste and I'd be better off at home..
