Decent PC for Development

1. What is your budget? Preferably 500 - 600 but willing to go to 700 to meet my requirements

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Development. Media Center

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Hard Drive

5. Do you need a monitor? No

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No interest

8. How can you pay? Credit Card, Visa Debit, Paypall

9. When are you purchasing? Within a month

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Dublin 1, but I should be OK myself

A few additional points:

Performance:
I'll be doing a lot of back-end web development which means I'll be running a web server, an IDE and a DBMS simultaneously. Therefore, I'm looking for a powerful machine for this. I'm looking for an i5 with at least 3.0 GHrz, something like i5-3570 which looks nice. Likewise, I'm looking for a decent amount of RAM.

Graphics:
I'm not a gamer (and if I do play them, I usually go for 10 year old games like Medal of Honor), so I'm not looking to spend a fortune on a high end card. In addition to comfortably handling HD playback at a high resolution (1920X1200), I'll need a card that supports a three monitor setup. They are my two main requirements for a graphics card. As for rendering graphics of the latest games, forget about it.

HD:
I have a HD from another PC that I'll use as storage but I also want to include a SS HD in this build.

Would be a very good gaming PC. Xeon is esentially an i7 with no integrated graphics or overclocking capability. How old is the hard drive you currently have? If you need another 8GB of ram You could drop the graphics card down to a 7770 which would be fine for games around medium to high settings but at 35 FPS. Not sure if current graphics in build has three inputs, someone else might clarify that.

Could probably drop to a hd7750 or lower tbh, doesn't sound like op even needs a 7870. A cheaper psu like the 400W version is an option as well especially with a lower end gpu.

Yeah, I think I'll save some money and get the 7750 graphics card instead.

Silly question, but does the processor come with a fan/heatsink or do I need to buy that seperately?
If I have to buy seperately, do you have any recommendation? My Xeon processor has a 1150 socket but I can't find any fans on hardwareversand that mentions that socket. Would heatsinks for 1155 fit the 1150 socket?

"ohne" means without. Kühler is the heatsink. LuftKühler would be aircooled heat sink.

A search for "heatsink 1150" does bring up a few possibilities with fans of various sizes (only some have thermal grease/paste included)

It does come with a fan/heatsink.

A coolmaster hyper evo212. Bout 27 Euro. Does not say 1150 on them but it does fit.

Have you thought about virtualisation?

If you're doing back end development it can be very handy.

I'd go for 16 GB and an 8 core AMD if you're going to do that.

Edit: scratch the AMD actually, just reading the XEON is probably better

Socket 1155 hole placements are the same as Socket 1150 so it will fit.

Thanks guys. I already know that the heatsink will fit with my motherboard and CPU, but I was wondering if it will fit in the case I have chosen. The heatsink seems very tall.

The hyper 212 does fit in the shinobi, my brother has both.
