so for the past 2 weeks now i have been monitoring my download speeds .. right now i am paying vodafone for 12mb downstream, which when i check my netgear router i am getting 12560kbps downstream so all is good
but not really .. when i check speedtest ( ookla ) i am getting 2mb at most during mid day and ino about prime hours etc and speeds being slower but this is ridiculous .. before you say anything ive rang vodafone many times in these 2 weeks complaining about my speeds and they say there is nothing wrong on there side it must be me .. ( keep in mind when i did the speedtest i set my computer mac address to highest priority in QoS and turned off the wifi so no other devices were interfering with my bandwidth ) still was getting 2mb.
when on the phone with technical support ( 3 different people ) i was told yes 3 different things that were wrong ( i swear they read off a bloody script ) im no thick either i know all about my router and i know for a fact they capped my speeds
i made this post if anyone has had this problem or is in the same boat as me right now ...
but what i will do is ring them on monday and see what they say when i ask are they capping my speeds and threaten to move to eircom haha

if anyone is wondering i am unable to get fibre optic in my area and i live 400m from the server box and live in a fairly small estate

I am in the same boat they wont do anything for you only go thru the same procedure as always its your filter, router etc etc. There has to be issues on Vodafone's network or else they are throttling everybody.

Same boat here too. I was with UTV previously and they started (and denied) throttling my speeds so moved to Vodafone. Now it seems they're doing the same thing. Currently eyeing up a move back to Eircom after years of saying I wouldn't.

I had the fibre installed yesterday. I've had speeds ranging from 0.2mbps up to 30 Mbps.

    0.2Mb?? Thats mental!!

Just got off the phone with tech support. They cant see any fault externally and looks like I have to get an electrician to test the sockets in house, which I dont think there will be an issue with as we havent had an issue up until now!

    ( update )
so after ringing vodafone i was told there must be a ' small problem ' that is causing my huge drop in speeds during the day
i was given an increase to 17mbps download and .60 upload .. then was told an engineer was coming out to test my lines at the side of the house and would receive a text when it was fixed.
@ problem only getting 4-5 download max
so my conclusion is yes we are being capped but we gotta deal with it until they get new lines to support everyone and fibre comes to our local area.

I was having massive problems over the new year with the DSL box, there was no one on Talk to: here so I resigned myself to call the BB support line, 20 mins wait.

So i hard reset the modem and it seemed to fix it.

Is the general consensus to avoid fiber for the minute?

Have Vodafone fibre myself since October and find it to be rock solid so far.

But those speeds are very bad , what does it say your connection is on the modem?

    Here is mine:

    Line standard VDSL2

    Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 50174
    Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 20479

12560kbps downstream ( as i said in original post at the top )

    765 Kbps upstream

finding it hard to even hit 4-5mb during the day but have near full speeds late at night/early morning
there's no 2 ways about it, i'm being capped by vodafone to a set speed during the day even though they deny it over the phone.
upstream is fine always in and around 0.60mb and ping is in and around the same also ..

ookla test servers on the west coast of ireland are useless since the bad weather. try speedtest.eircom.net as it seems to be more reliable at the moment

Been having problems for months now with my VF speed. When we first got NGB it was great, solid 8Mb all times of day and night, no contention problems like I had previously. Now I'm on the 24Mb package, getting max 7Mb during the day, and around 1Mb in the evenings. Every evening.

Rang numerous times, same old story. "Oh I have to reduce your overall speed" etc. etc. - all that does is reduce my semi-decent daytime speed and leaves me just as bad in the evenings.

Something is definitely going on, I suspect as a result of the fibre work. Wish they'd just be honest about it and stop with the whole "can you turn off your modem for 5 mins, then everything will be fine" stuff.

Was very happy with VF while the service was good. It's appalling now, and renders some the services I use like Sky Go and YouTube completely useless in the evenings. :(

Is it just the weather though? I'm on Eircom's up to 50 meg fibre product. Every evening since Sat from around 9pm to midnight, download speed tests from the west coast servers on speedtest.net, as well as Dundalk are all over the place (11 Mb/s, 20, 15 etc). But after midnight, all go back to around 47 for me, even Manchester! At 11.30pm tonight i got a download reading of around 6 from there, now its 47 too. As you say, only eircom's speedtest site remains the same.

Sounds familiar. Before you go checking all. Have you got a sky box plugged into a phone socket?
Just spend a couple of hours checking sockets after numerous conversations with vodafone, nothing is ever their fault. Pretty much knew there would not be an issue.

Then found Sky+ box to be plugged into a phone socket, Murphs law, on the last socket checked (had forgot about that one), disconnect Sky+ box and went from ~1.5Mb to over 5Mb.
Still crap, but vastly better than what I'm used to.

Got an electrician and no suprises there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of our sockets! Sparky told me that he has heard that story spouted by ISP's so many times.

It must have been an issue externally as normal status resumed and getting my 11.52-11.89 MBs download
