just wondering what are the pros and cons of main dealer servicing?

i never had main dealer servicing previously. i'd a head gasket issue before and cos I hadn't a mdsh I was on my own. However, just talking to a guy this evening he made out that you still had a case without one. at the time it was a 6 year old lexus and they sought regular mdsh.

does it have an implication for the value. I was thinking if I was buying a 2nd hand car I'd be getting an AA guy to carry out a comprehensive check either way.

All depends on the age of the car and the car.
If the car is outside warranty, I'd be getting an indie to do the work and if it was an alfa an alfa specialist. Likewise if it was a bmw I'd be bringing it to a bmw specialist.
If it was still within warranty I'd probably be getting main dealer to do the service.

With regards to fixing outside of warranty, if it's a recall they'll fix all problems regardless of service history or not.

Find a good indie unless it's still under warranty. My indie is ex main dealers and knows my car inside out. The trick is finding a good one. He is expensive as far as indies go but worth every penny IMO.

Asking around the likes of here helps though

If it's a vw I'd be taking it to George dalton in abbeyleix.
