Just pondering the usual end of year questions? Need to get back into running and lose the spare tire. Always wanted to run an Ultra Marathon.

Lose weight, exercise more, make more friends, find a boyfriend*.....the usual stuff I try and fail to do every year. >__<

    *all applicants welcome! :p

    -Lose (some) weight

    -Start doing weights or something

    -Get a new job (maybe)

-Try to fix up some broken/burned bridges

-Come what may, try to be all I can be

Think I'm gonna need to listen to this on repeat for the next 12 months:

I'm telling myself that I'm going to learn to cook, take up jogging, go to the gym 4 times a week (probably being a bit overambitious here) and find a boyfriend (probably being overambitious here too :p).

I'm very enthusiastic about all these ideas at the moment, but we'll see if I actually do anything about them once the new year starts...

Shall join ye all on the boyfriend ship!

I'm serious about mine this year.
Writing them down and reviewing them on a regular basis.

A relationship is high up the list too!

Write more everyday, be it college work or personal rambles.

I managed to do 4 of the 5 I had set myself for 2013 so I am very proud of myself :D

    I think for 2014 I will try to;

    Drink less,
Care less about the unimportant things,
Try to reconnect with my family,
    Get better at my job

Thats brilliant :) - most of mine tend to dissolve by the end of January. :(

But this year I firstly want to do what DazMarz suggests and mend a few bridges, eating whatever humble pie is necessary etc

And yes to all of the others too
    • lose weight
    • drink less
    • read and write more
    • spend less time on the computer/watching TV
    • more time in the garden etc
    • also make an effort to visit some older neighbours who live alone

That sounds like exactly like me this time last year! Here you go, you know you want to :)

    And yes I did....

I have a few. No idea if I'll manage most of them.

    1) be able to run a 5K.
    2) set up and launch the business I've been thinking of for a couple of years.
    3) read (at least) one new book a month. I'm a demon for rereading books again and again!
    4) cut down my negative self talk.

That time of year again ^^

    - Put on weight!
    - Write a bit more everyday / Get back into reading.
    - Start back into the guitar!
    - Get the tattoo that I've always been doodling on myself!
    - Less negative and more positive about myself ^^ Less worried about what others think etc.

    Oh and of course...
    - Find the other half! He's out there somewhere and must be terribly miserable without me! :D

    Happy New Year to all!

Ah you're cheating with your big list!!!.

Drink less should help with the weight loss
Read and write more will mean less computer time
Working in the garden means seeing more of the neighbours

    And yes I did....

This coming year will be a bit too soon for an Ultra, as I'm coming back from torn ligaments which put me out for 18 months and I'll be self training.

I would like to list the usual (loads of gym, quit smoking, eat healthy etc). But this year I have decided not to fool myself and am being realistic about it...

    - Learn to swim (have my very first lesson next week!)
    - Finally go to Paris! (As a history nerd it has always appealed to me, and I have friends living there offering to put me up, so I really have no excuse!)
    - Pay off my credit card.
    - Cut back on the booze (this will be necessary in order to afford my previously listed goals!)
    - Quitting smoking would be amazing, but realistically, I would be delighted if I could cut it down to just when I'm boozing.
    - Upgrade the car (again, this is reliant on me being able to cut back on the booze and smokes)

    Yeah there's a few

    * Cut back on drink. I can't handle hangovers anymore and it's so expensive.
    * Continue to eat healthier. I've changed my diet for the better a few months back and can see the difference.
    * Join a gym. They frighten the life out of me but I'm determined to go.
    * Join more clubs. Not just gay social clubs but I am getting tired of my social scene revolving around the pub.

    Mine are simple

Get fit and lose weight - already started a diet and plan on not drinking any alcohol except for a friends 30th and Paddy's Day (obviously!). I have my own 30th and a holiday planned for late 2014 and a family wedding in 2015 and I intend being much slimmer and healthier for all of them. Also going out walking every night or adding some form of exercise into my routine if I can't get out.

Stay a non-smoker - almost 5 months off the smokes already and no desire to go back on them.

Delete all profiles on dating sites - Already done and am gonna concentrate on myself and just being happy and let whatever happens, happen.

    1. Turn off phone for an hour each evening- Its getting to the point where my hand feels unnaturally light when I'm not holding it.
    2. Turn phone off in class- Snapchat is possibly the potential ruination of my academic career.
    3. Stop smoking while drinking
    4. Start knocking about with the Keyboard again
    5. Learn to save money

All well within my power to do I think, with only the first one posing a real threat.

One month in are you still trying to stick to these?!

    I said I'd...

Drink less (Yes, but finding it tough, feel like ѕhit sometimes. Slightly worrying!)
Care less about the unimportant things (Definitely, though probably to my detriment in some instances)
Try to reconnect with my family (Called my dad twice, no answer. Four or five texts, no reply. I'm going to abandon this one :( This is the one I couldn't do last year either)
Get better at my job (Not yet but working at it. Personal baggage prevented me from getting a project I really wanted a few months ago and it's sapping my will to improve. It'll pass)

Anyone else want to share an update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,151 ✭✭✭Daith

    Yeah sure

    * Cut back on drink. I can't handle hangovers anymore and it's so expensive.
-I've been drinkling less and rarely during the week now. Mostly Saturday nights

    * Continue to eat healthier. I've changed my diet for the better a few months back and can see the difference.
    - Yes still doing this. Can now easily fit into a pair jeans I bought four years ago. Flip side is I need to buy more clothes. I hate shopping! Anybody want to volunteer as my personal shopper??

    * Join a gym. They frighten the life out of me but I'm determined to go.
-Joined but only use treadmill. Need to book one of the PTs there for a plan

    * Join more clubs. Not just gay social clubs but I am getting tired of my social scene revolving around the pub.
    - I'm in one club full time and go to another one when they have events on I like

Have drank once since new years and have been eating healthier since the start of the year. I have lost 9lbs in total so far and hope to have a good bit off by the time I go on my first of 2 trips to London this year at the end of July and October.

Still haven't had one. Almost 6 months off them now. :)
