i changed the burner on my gerkros boiler (model gem top cleaner 60/95) which has a riello 40 g38 burner unit last year and the last couple of weeks when the kerosene has run low we toped it up and now it wont fire at all. over christmas it was working but then when the termostat kicked in it wouldnt come back on again and would lock out and we would have to press the red switch to atart back up and for some reason there was water in the oil tank so i drained all the water i could out of it till the oil ran clean and is running clean to the pump and cleaned the oil filter in the burner and the tank and oil is coming clean out of the pipes now but when it stars it only hums and then makes a buzzing sound and then locks out again the air fan doesnt even start up. i know it prob the pump but not sure what to do next this happened before and the plumper said he reset the pump how can i do this in detail please as dont want to get the plumber out again. i have uploaded a picture of my burner.

If it's only humming then chances it's only the capacitor

Crap from the tank may have gone into the oil pump & seized it.

You would need to spin the pump to see if there is a restriction. If the pump has got a lot of crap in it, it has most likely damaged it beyond repair & a replacement is required.

You will need specialist equipment to replace the pump properly, i.e. oil pump gauge to set the correct pump pressure for your make/model of boiler & a flue gas analyiser to set the correct fuel to air ratio.

what part do i need to spin is the the part that has the cog like gears and a half moon shape on it.

By either removing the pump & spinning its spindle or removing the fan housing & spinning the fan but this would require removing the hydraulic jack assembly also.

i took the pump off and disconected the fuel line, both copper pipes coming from the pump and the wires on top of it and the spindle moved a half turn and just stopped dead wouldnt move again so it wouldnt fit back in to the housing as the back peace woulnt line up with the inside part so i had to dismantle the pump and the g3ears of it were jamed i had to put a little pressure on them and the smaller gear cracked. so it must have been seized and i will need to get a ned pump any idea how much they cost and where i would get one i live in new ross co wexford.

90 euro approx for new pump, although some merchants charge as much as 120 euro.I think it would be better for you to get an oftec trained technician in.Reasons for this would be A,You still have water in your tank and its only a matter of time before it will burn out your new pump,B,You will need a pressure gauge to set up the new pump and a flue gas analyzer to set up your boiler to run efficiently,C,A new nozzle is more than likely required, they dont like water contamination.Water detection paste will tell you how much water is in your tank.It can be removed with a suction pump

As I said it is NOT a DIY job. You do need a service engineer. I do realise you think you are capable of changing it & most likely are but unless you have the correct equipment, you are at nothing.

All decent service engineers carry in their vans oil pumps for the G series burner.

In fact I am on my way out to replace one after me din dins, so for own sake & the boilers sake, call an suitable engineer.

Remember, a boiler is not just for Xmas! :-)
