1999 Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 Petrol [overheat]

    Hi Guys.
I have a 1999 Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 petrol with 237k miles on the clock, I have to say this car has paid it's way and was trouble free up until recently. I was driving it on Christmas day when I noticed that the temperature gauge was rising to the point that it would rise to the 'red area' and then go back down to normal, it would then start to spike, I switched on the interior heat to full and it seemed to stabilise the gauge, if I got caught at traffic lights the temp gauge would rise until I drove off again and at that stage it would spike up and down until I put the heat on full.

O Christmas day I checked the water bottle in the engine and it was below the minimum mark, because it was Christmas day I had no choice but to fill the bottle with water rather than coolant, but the temp kept rising, Car was not driven yesterday but this morning however the coolant bottle was near empty again, Sorry guys but I am not a car guy and don't really know my way around an engine. Any suggestions??? :o

Sounds like you have a coolant leak somewhere but it could be something else also. You really need to get it to a mechanic

Could be the waterpump, the heads generally don't go on these engines unless they get hot!
