Front Door Draft Problem

    Hi all,

Trying to stop a draft coming in from the bottom of our front door. We bought this house a year ago so are working with what the previous owner has in place.

In the attached images you can see the space to the left and right of the door when closed and then the space directly underneath the door when it is open. The draft comes in on either side of these two spaces left and right of the door.

Is there anything we can do to fill some of the empty space below the door or if it's necessary to have this space there? Looked at using one of those hardening foam fillers but afraid to do use it and then have to go clean it all out if it doesn't work.

Any help would be most appreciated.

    Thanks!

Had this problem myself last year and I looked at storm guard metal around door on DIY.com.

I ended up putting felt seal instead and it got me through the winter until I changed the front door to a Palladio door at a very good price and I must say the difference is unbelievable.

    Thanks dmca77,

Will look at the felt seal option. Would love a new door but don't have the funds right now. I really thought there would be some way of filling the little inlet area on either side of the door...

It could be worth checking that the seal on the saddle board is done correctly too. You can get saddle boards that have a kind of rubber thing on them that seals with the bottom of the door.

Thanks Spacetime, would you call that steel area that has a little rubber sticky seal on it the saddle board?
