Went to see this last night, have to say not bad! Drags on a bit at the start, gets a tad all over the place , but the last 20mins or so was actually pure scaryness and not actually stupid tbh albeit the very end was rather expected :p

A definite improvement on recent proceedings. Nothing new here. A few laughs, a few scares. The usual POV suspense angles. Pleasantly surprised.

Back to the usual bollocks with PA5 in October, I assume.

I was going to right a full review on this, but I still find it very difficult to nail down...

I'm a huge PA fan. I mean I'll be first to admit that 2 and 4 were very weak films, but I adore the story and the way that it's very slowly and subtly being revealed. I thought this one is definitely one the strong ones in the series. It's got genuinely funny moments, few cheap jumps, the amount/reason for the camera footage is believable (i.e. not some guy who's put ~25 HD cameras in his house). It really freshened up what could easily be a stale series.

That said, it absolutely bombed at the cinema I went to (Odeon in Belfast). I've genuinely never heard such a bad reaction from people after the film. Nobody understood what was going on or why, they laughed at the funny bits but everything else just left them confused. It's unfortunate but I think to appreciate this film you kind have to have paid attention to the last four PA films. Or at least more than the average film goer did.

There was one thing that really made no sense to me at all though.
So we see at least twice in the film that hispanic gangsters really don't like being on video camera, they nearly get beaten up twice because of it. But then at the end, when two of the gangsters are actually going to go and murder a whole bunch of people, they don't bat an eyelid that our hero is bringing a camera. What the hell? I'm pretty sure it's even the same bald guy at the end as in the first time they nearly get beaten up over it

The link with the other PA films does feel tenuous.

There is the feeling that this was a totally different found footage film once upon a time and was rewritten in order to be shoe horned into the franchise, hence, the bizarre ending.

I *loved* the ending. Bizarre for sure, I can see why people who had missed the other sequels/prequels may have felt alienated. But I have to say I've loved every attempt they've made to string the story together over the 5 films

I didnt like any of the rest of the PA's but this one is watchable. The first hour is the best part as the last 20 mins are just awful. Definitely the best of a bad bunch.

    I love PA1.

    PA2 was really bad.

    PA3 was alright.

    I loved PA4.

PA: The Marked Ones.... I felt it dragged too much, and I felt that so much more could have been done with the last half hour. I felt that it was missing any real terror. Enjoyable, but not good enough.
