Hi all,I bought an iphone for my son off a friend of mine for christmas,he is based in the united states and told me it was locked to a t and t america,I left it in shop to be jailbroken ,I went in this morning and was told it was rejected,'possibly because it was tied to a contract,I rang my mate and he said he had a contract but he upgraded to the iphone 5,I was just wondering if there is any other way to get the phone unlocked,I wouldn't mind if it was for myself but it was a christmas present for my son. Thanks for any replys.

The only official way to unlock an iPhone is via the original carrier. If they have refused the request then you can't do it that way. Jailbreaking can only unlock older iPhones such as the 3GS and earlier (and a very early iPhone 4).

You might be able to unlock it with a SIM card hack (such as a Gevey SIM) but I've never done this so I can't say how well it will work.

What network is the phone locked to? If it's not locked to AT&T then they can't do anything for you.

As your friend to contact AT&T.
