    The dish will have moved.
My 90cm approx dish is pointing North today!

The 110cm motorised one looks OK. It's on a fatter pole, so better grip on clamps.

In West here, fixed dishes ok (well secured with a very thick pole to the ground and fixed to the wall on 3 brackets) BUT the hailstones shattered the outer casing of my OCTO LNB on night of 23rd and it then filled up with water! New OCTO to be ordered Monday. Temporary fix with spare QUAD I had for now!

Tree fell into garden as wind was very strong but dish OK and signal holding here in Moira, Co. Antrim N. Ireland.

How did u cope lol? It's awful not having anything. I thought at least the free to air ones would work nth that's saying no satellite signal.

  • Site Banned Posts: 50 ✭✭hatchets mcgovern

Its the folks who have really missed it.

My big dvd came to the rescue. Sky didn't seem to be bothered really. I wonder is their level of service this poor in the uk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭talkin

Probably not. Going to cancel it (or try to cancel it today) might help me to get my a off the couch more in the new year like my New Years rosolution states. Have to say I miss it already though. Sitting room seems pointless now lol!

No Sky here either, is there anything simple that can be done DIY to try and fix it rather than having to wait for them? Dish looks perfectly normal to me, is it just that it may have moved slightly? This is the second time a storm has knocked it out since I got it just over a year ago, same last time, looked normal but had moved. Is there anyway of knowing exactly which way it should be facing?

I'm not too sure maybe get somebody to move it while you're inside watching to see If it comes back. Do any of ye still have the free to view ones u get with just having the sky box?

If the dish moved it would affect all the channels. No reason the free ones would still work.

    Ahh so unfair lol

The weather has always affected my dish. Sky broadband has always been poor also. But I moved from UPC because they were crap. Haaa I'm hard to please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 534 ✭✭✭talkin

Iv had sky for years never had a problem. Itl be missed lol. Ah you're not hard to please when you're only asking for the thing to actually work ha

Milk it for all you can. ! All they can do is reward you because you will have to wait another couple of weeks!

UPC don't use the dish so you wouldn't have had the same problem. Ask them why should you stay with them.

Try get free movies and sports. Nothing to lose!

It's €60 for a call out to fix but free for upgrade. I dunno though how good would my social life be though not been controlled by what's on tv. Lol

good internet connection needed minimum 2MB download but in reality for watchable TV you need 4 or more in the case of HD. You are basically streaming tv and downloading films from the itunes store (legally i might add) it has a HDMI output to your tv and you are not just restricted to the Apple variety of media streaming box there are others. We use Apple cause we have quite a bit of their equipment and you can stream from the iphone or ipad basically to your tv.

Its basically a method of putting most things on your iphone or ipad on your tv screen along with a way of viewing netflix (or Hulu if you are located stateside) or downloading a movie from the Itunes store all for the princely sum of 109 euros and Yes it is restrictive:D

In fairness, a good quality dish properly installed will take a fair bit of wind before it moves. More than the winds we have had so far this winter in fact.

Problems come with bad installation and poor quality dishes that are rusted to bits in a couple of years.
