Mac OSX and eFibre router [Access to USB device attached to Router]

    Hi all,

am looking for some guidance with regards to gaining access to a USB hanging off the eFibre router.

    My setup:
    Mac OSX and iPads.

I gained access through to the router and enabled
    1. File sharing and changed the "Host name" to name of USB stick
    2. Media Server is enable also.
Q: Do I change the name of the media path library?

I am using USB port 1, LED Green.

Was onto Eircom support and they are "not trained" and don't provide support for USB features.

Anyone gain access on OSX with safari?

I have posted this on another forum in the "Broadband" section but only see solutions to PC's

I am unable to access the USB stick and cant see options outlined in the users manual from Zxyel.

Eircom as I mentioned wont provide support for this feature which is bizarre in the least.

    Help most welcome!

Only advice I can offer is to use an AirPort Extreme to do the job...

There has to be a way. Thank you for the reply.

Post a screenshot of the settings in the router for USB sharing - I don't use Eircom and neither do I use their equipment but however have a router at home that shares usb devices on it and the Mac picks up on that fine.

    Presumably process should be similar.

Ok so I have been onto Eircom and though they don't support the USB feature of the F1000 they were quite happy to supply an email with instructions as to gaining access to this feature.

So I have tried but am nowhere nearer!

    Here is my set up

    Mac OSX 10.8.3, iMac.

32GB USB stick called "32GB", FAT32 Format on USB port 1 of router
Within this I have a folder called "Share"

    Click on this link

    smb://192.168.1.254/usbkey/usb1_1

And I get a login window for "192.168.1.254"
Enter username "admin" and password "xxxxxx"

    Screenshot2014-01-02182713_zps8935ea1e.png

And I get the following message...

"There was a problem connecting to the server "192.168.1.254", The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name and then try again"

    Any ideas?
I have tried editing the "Media Library Path" in the Media Server tab and also "Host name" in the File sharing tab

Should it remain usb1_1 or should I rename to 32GB to reflect the name of the USB stick attached to that port?

ah right ok. I see it all now.Cheers for that/

    - First update to 10.8.5 - Via Apple Menu -> Software update
    - Try connecting as guest instead instead of using the router name / password

    - Try connecting to (CMD & K) "smb://192.168.1.254/32GB" instead or...

    - Try going to Finder -> Go -> Network and see if you can locate the router this way to access the USB drive

Let me know which one works for you

    Question - Why 10.8.5?

    OK Updated to 10.8.5

    1. No change, same error
    2. Tried as guest - not allowed

    3. Connect to network, cant see anything

Try replacing SMB with FTP when connecting to server (CMD+K).

In this case I would have to see the USB drive in my network lists?

You should see the router first under network/shared.. then you should be able to see the drive...

In Stainless Steel's answer - Your connecting directly via Cmd +K - It doesn't have to show up in the list in order for that to work.

What I'll do is - I'll double check the share name I have for the netgear router I have for home .. Its under the format of 192.168.1.1/ something something

Can't check as I am in work at the mo.

    Connecting directly via Cmd+K

    I need the direct path

    so
    http://192.168.1.254/32GB
    or
http://192.168.1.254/usb1_1/32GB/Share - pointing right to the path of the folder

Either way should work, but alas they are not!

However this is when connecting to a server!

I am still not able to see anything through the admin page of the router and I think it should be detecting the USB stick attached?

    Screenshot2014-01-03142416_zps824a8d76.png

Should this interface window should show me more details of the USB device?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,829 ✭✭✭Nemeses

I'll show you what my netgear does later - It even gives me a link as well to make sure I can access it.

Something to me looks like that interface is lacking something.

I'm in the same boat. Have posted a few screen shots of my router settings here http://emeraldjava.github.io/blog/Eircom-Router-USB/

Would appreciate any insights or advice.
