It's the time of year when a lot of food, packaging and energy are wasted. Do you tolerate waste? What's the most wasteful thing you've seen in your personal life? Where is the fine line between waste and skinflintery?

How far would you go to avoid waste?

My lovely mammy bought a turkey a few weeks ago, and being that it was indeed weeks til Christmas, they were cheaper so she bought it and put it in her friends deep freeze. He friend was supposed to take it out on Friday night but forgot and only took it out Saturday night. I rang the Mammy Christmas Eve to say hello and she was crying over the Turkey, as there were 13 of us coming for dins the next day and it was still frozen. I told her to relax ta fcuk that I would get her a new turkey and there was to be no crying. So I bought her two 5kg turkeys and in return she gave me her "8kg" turkey. I have no use for a big turkey so it has been cooked and a few sambos have been eaten but this giant bird is going to go to waste. Also, it certainly couldn't have been 8kg like she said so I overcooked the flippin thing and it's not even that nice.

That's my biggest waste this Christmas.

The letters 'a' and 'g' are somewhat wasted in the title.

Shorter than 'wastefulness' which is the word I wanted to use but thought better of it

If you want a hint how how not to waste it.

    Make a pot of gravy.

Take the meat off the bone.

Portion it into containers or freezer bags.

Pour in some cooled down gravy and pop the portions in the freezer.

Lots of ready dinners for lazy days :)
