Quest about DVB-T2

    Hi There,

I just purchased myself a shiny new Samsung TV in the sales, model UE46F6500, bought from Pixmania.

It says on the ad for the TV that:
"This TV does not have a DVB-T2 tuner for Freeview HD capture."
    and
"SMART TV services may not be available in certain countries."

I am struggling to understand what the DVB-T2 tuner piece means, but I think it means that the TV will not pick up Saorview channels?

My research shows that there are two models of this TV, one an international model, model no UE46F6500SSXZG; and the other a UK specific model, model; no UE46F6500SBXXU. But the add on pixmania does not give the full model no, so I am not sure which one I bought.

I have a Sky package anyway and I do not have an arial so I am not to concerned about not picking up Saorview, but are there any other implications that I should consider? I can still cancel the order /return the tv if I need to.

And finally, by the time I reach 50 years of age, I will be completely unable to purchase a TV because I will be to confused by all the jargon! I am already struggling now! Merry Christmas one and all, hope someone can help me out a little.

DVB-T2 is the transmission standard used in the UK for the Freeview HD channels over the aerial i.e. BBC1/2 HD, ITV HD, Ch.4 HD etc.

Saorview and Freeview use the older DVB-T standard, so no problems there.

I was looking at the same TV in the 40 inch version. What I was hoping to do was to cancel my Sky subscription and watch the FTA channels on the TV, I have an aerial as well as a sky dish. Does anyone know if this will be possible regardless of which TV you buy, the European model or the International model?
    Thanks

You need either a Freesat + HD satellite PVR box OR a TV with DVB-S2 tuner for Satellite as well as the terrestrial (for an aerial ) tuner.

If cancelling Sky+ or Sky HD, it's best to have once off cost of a Freesat + HD PVR box, though of course the Sky Box is yours and does get some UK free channels (but many blocked!) and recording is disabled.
the European model or the International model?
There are probably NO true International TVs. There are ones for UK and Generic Mainland Europe models. There both kinds also with Saorview certification, and both kinds that work badly in Ireland.

Thanks for the reply Watty. I meant to say UK and International, as the OP had mentioned above. I have my eye on a few Freesat boxes which were mentioned on this forum, I'll look in to them.

You mean UK or Generic European. There are at least 4 other Incompatible Digital Transmission standards apart from DVB-T and DVB-T2. Also at least a couple of places don't use MPEG4 for HD.

Truly International Digital TVs don't exist (There were nearly International Analogue ones, only a couple of countries not covered).

Even Satellite, not every service is DVB-S or DVB-S2, nor are all Ku Band. USA particular has more than one kind of Satellite TV!
