Ninento Wii like pointer/remote for the Raspberry Pi?

I have XBMC set up on the parent's TV and trying to make it as easy to use as possible. I purchased a USB remote control for it but it's pretty poor, remote itself has far too many buttons and the only ones you;d really need to use (arrows and select) are hard to distinguish from the rest.

I was thinking the most intuitive controls would be a pointer type thing like what the Nintendo Wii has - rather than having to slowly guide a cursor around using directional buttons.

Is anything like this available & compatible?

    An AppleTV remote ?

I don't think that's what I'm after. I'm talking about something that has a USB receiver which can track where you are pointing the remote, and the on-screen cursor follows this. The same way you make menu selections on the Nintendo Wii.

I tried something like that on XBMC and gave up in frustration.

Best I have found so far is to locate the simplest remote you can find (an old one thrown in a drawer maybe) and marry it to a FLIRC.

Still looking for the ideal solution .....

I presume the USB receiver that came with this remote is a 'FLIRC'? How do I map the controls?

I'm seriously considering just removing all the useless buttons on this remote :)

Is there any apple tv simular remotes on the likes of ebay that would work with the pi.

Something that would have few buttons and be parent friendly?
