Call out mechanic to remove broken bolt in Mayo

    Looking for a mechanic who can call to the house where I have my car and remove a snapped bolt

    Located in : Ballina, Co.Mayo

    Where in Mayo is the car and (as a matter of interest) where in the car is the bolt? :)

    Sorry I should have added more info

    Car is in : Ballina.

    The bolt that is broken is one of the bolt that would hold down the rocker cover in a Honda Civic 1998

    Do you have roadside assistance on your policy? It might be covered under that.
    Probably not but hey, give it a try.
    Should not be too much, the callout will be the expensive part I reckon.

    is there two or four bolts on it?

    You might be able to refit is as best as you can and while it may leak a little, you might be able to get it to a garage. It should be cheaper if you could.

    That doesn't look like it will affect the operation of the car, if its only into the cam journal cap then it won't affect the operation of the car.
    The second black bolt is the one that holds the journal down.
    I'd put the cam cover back on and drive the car to a garage, it will be pricey enough to get someone out, if they can do it on site it'll be much cheaper.

    Car has no tax, insurance or nct
    I will call up a few garages tomorrow and price around and get a trailer to move the car.

    you could try a stud removal set from a motor factors,one way to remove it is to carefully drill a hole in the center of the broken stud then screw in the stud removal tap which has a anticlockwise thread which means the more you tighten the tap into the broken stud you will be loosening the stud as the tap will be moving the stud in the loosening direction, spray plenty of penetrating oil on the broken stud to help loosen it the night before, also make sure none of the metal filings from the drilling get into oil ways

    Just don't snap the easy-out, if you do its a big job to get it out, hardened steel is not easily removed from a bolt shank.

    If I am understanding this correctly the stud is screwed in to the cap.

    If so, remove the cap complete and bring it to someone. Anyone handy with a welder will have the broken piece out in a few minutes.
