Anyone else having problems? The wind in particular seems to be playing havoc with it despite the aerial being in the attic!

We watch 90% of TV on netflix.
News is the only thing I regularly watch in TV.
That said we don't watch any soaps, reality tv, xfactor or any of that tripe.

Have a few series we'd watch, a documentary or a film.

This Netflix, how does it work bbam?

Upgraded from old chorus package to sky+ box a year or so but think technology has moved way past boxes beside the tv.
Talking to a dj at a Christmas party and he said a young un threw her phone into booth getting him to play this song. He told her he didn't have the right lead. 'You need a lead?!' Says she with a look of disgust and storms off! :D

Sky box being a prick here too. Just made my mind up to go down the village for a pont or two instead. Should be good craic as the hunt was around today and the pub does be flying every Stephens day after it.

    Very simple.
    It's €7 a month.
Only needs a moderate broadband connection.

You can watch it on laptop or through laptop on the tv.

Just got a smart box for the tv. Has a remote so we can run it directly on the tv. Also let's us run other web based stuff directly on the tv.

The regional patch can be bypassed easily so full worldwide content can be viewed here.

We watch feck all telly so we'll see. If it's alright after the weather settles we may just muddle on. Was looking forward to watching the guard tonight though

bbam - have you done a speed test on your broadband? Ours is crap to the point that sometimes there is buffering on youtube clips at 128kbs. Hopefully getting it improved in the new year. Would love to get netflix.

Had your old set up been dodgy all along or just recently? I've a cheap b&q aerial which might be a lot of the problem

    1.5mb. On the speed test.
I reckon Netflix is easier to run than utube.

There is a month free trial. That way you get to see over a period of time how it goes.

Ours is normally half that averaging 700-800 kb. 850kb is the max I've seen it. We're at the furthest point from the exchange. However it's inconsistent :(

God isn't rural broadband just a joke.

I had to bypass eircom and approach one if their engineers to make some changes at the pole. Then ring eircom and suddemly after 4 years we were broadband enabled.
    It's a joke.

I know a couple and Vodafone arranged a pole and phone connection tot heir house as they signed up for broadband. But when it came to actually making the connection Eircom say the exchange is full and won't make a connection. That's just this week. They got the feeling that if they leave it a month or two and approach eircom for a contract there'll suddenly be a space for them.

    Just a joke !

Yea had that, think you need a "weather head" very annoying image freezing & all. Seams to be lots of cowboys in that game. Least you got someone to put up an aerial. If the house is wired for aerials in each room, a plug in booster can help

There are lots of idiots trying to install aerials and satellite dishes, if you need work done you should get somebody from here: http://www.isaa.tv/isaamap.htm

AFAIK, they all go through an approval process so their installations should be of a decent standard and probably won't be afraid to go up roofs.

some of these installers are complete gangsters, one crowd asked the oh for €300 for to install

I bought a €15 colour king aerial another €15 for a couple of splitter boxes and coaxial cable , about 3/4 of a hour to fit

    perfect reception on all tellys

Unfortunately it isn't as always easy as that, it all depends how close to the transmitter you are, what power the transmitter is, what the terrain is like and so on. Some people could get perfectly reliable DTT from a coat hanger in the back of their tv, while others may need large channelised aerials over their roof, if they can even receive it at all.

I agree some of the prices some of the installers (including the good ones) look for is a bit rich, but coax cable, distribution boxes, set top boxes or whatever they install comes in varying degrees of quality. Cheap isn't always best.

with soar view you either have the signal or you haven't

I've heard of installers charging for mast pre amps which is utter bullsh1t

we put the aerial up 30 feet and found signals from 3 transmitters

we actually tuned for the farthest away 1 as pointing the aerial in this direction would be least likely to suffer interference from other telecommunications equipment we have installed on the tower

I put up our one aswell. Already had the coax and all I had to get was the ariel and a few F connectors. Drill a few holes in the gable and a few hilto bolts and just run the wire to the junction box in the attic. Simples!! Had an installer out to put up a new sky dish a few weeks ago because the old one had rusted away and he supplied the dish and pit it up for 60 quid. Got one with 4 ports on it so I can put a digital box in the bedrooms now and get the free channels. He was telling me about some new box you can get now that works through the broadband and he said it's a great job. He said he would give me the loan of one to see if it works ok where we are so must try and get that set up over the next few months aswell.

Yes the 'digital cliff', but a decent install can keep you further from the edge. If a poor install was done during high pressure weather, it might work when it's sunny and not when it's raining.

Unless I'm taking this up wrong, why would you think an installer should not charge to install something that they bought themselves?

That's hardly the most straightforward install for somebody not used to aerials to do.

I'm not arguing with you, I agree installers can overcharge a bit, but it's not always simple.
