Whats the difference in insuring a left hand drive car than a right hand one ?

    Price ? Restrictions ?

Impossible to say - it depends entirely on the insurance company/car/proposer.

    Was thinking for myself.

22 with 3+ years no claims bonus on full license

Just always something I get asked when insuring a car "is it right hand drive"

But u actually wouldn't mind driving on the other side.

If I imported a car to get best value for money etc it might work out a bit better than just going to the uk

Id imagine it would be seen as a much higher risk given the logistical issues of driving a left hand drive car on the left (things like overtaking become infinitely more difficult).

I used to have a LHD car in the UK - not practical, then again it was a Fiat Barchetta :D

If I remember correctly insurance was a 50% loading for LHD, issues were not being able to see when overtaking, being on the wrong side of the car going into/leaving car parks, etc.

    wouldn't really recommend it.

There's a reason why we have right hand drive cars in this country. I fail see any logic in driving one unless you realllyy wanted a Barchetta/camper.

Yeah the overtaking thing is the first thing to come into the equation !

but things like entering exiting car parks and drive thrus wouldn't be completely undoable - inconvenient alright but not impossible.

they just seem to be more comman than before over here so i guess there must be more than one reason than people moving to this country bringing their own car

Drive thrus, toll booths, even car park ticket machines etc would be nigh on impossible in fairness unless you have a passenger!

It would want to be something pretty exceptional to make it worth the effort.

A number of insurance companies won't insure lhd cars. Some won't insure imports that are not from the uk. So by importing a lhd car you are limiting the companies that will insure you

i just did an online quote with fbd and appearently i can have the equivalent of my volvo s80 back with the steering wheel on the other side for 959 euro.

thats normal cost if the steering wheel was on the other side to me !

Drive thrus are no problem...it's what reverse is for.
