Is this a tradition that's dying out or is it just our area.
We had 1 set just now. The first in years. A lad and girl singing O Holy Night. It was one of the best renditions I ever heard and without music too.

Fiver apeice for less than 5 minutes. If I was on similar I'd be counting myself well paid.
Then again others might have a different opinion.

If they sing or play to a standard l have time for them and have no problem paying.
    Otherwise it's glorified begging

We used to go out in the old days. "The Wren, the wren, the king of all birds.....". Used to get enough money to go on the beer that night. :D

None around here the last few years. Sure the kids have too much money now. Saw a few in the village doing the pubs with mammy/daddy doing the driving. Did the wren for years as a young lad with my sister on the carrier of the bike (she could sing) Obviously as I was the brains and brawn of the operation the split was to me 60:40!!
Must admit I did enjoy it and made good money for a few hours.

2 wren boys around here though I am 3 miles from the village, used to cycle around all day on the wren more than 25 years ago on bad bicycles.
My kids are two small but I think trick or treat has taken over.
