Cyanogenmod- Nexus 7 2013

I'm just wondering if it's worth it? I've looked at videos of it and it seems interesting and with the new app on the Playstore it's really easy to do (no need to root or unlock bootloader), but is it worth it? I'm running 4.4.2 and have no problems with it as of yet.

So what are the advantages/disadvantaged (if any) to it?

The biggest plus IMO is the level of customisation, for example adding shortcuts to the drop down menus. I just moved from a phone running cyanogenmod to stock 4.3 and I miss some of the shortcuts I had set up.

Otherwise the main reason is in order to keep up with the latest version of Android but that's not applicable with the Nexus. I have mine just over a year now and never had the urge to install it.

I have cm on my nexus 4 but never saw the need on my nexus 7 tbh. On non nexus devices it's a different story of course.

Not really that strong a point nowadays with custom launchers, Xposed framework, etc. and this coming from a long-time CM user.

Since Kitkat, Hangouts and the move away from AOSP applications by Google CM on a Nexus seems like a step backwards to me.

As murphaph said on a non Nexus now that's a different story I'd put CM on it in a flash.

    As did I.

I'd say I only have cm on my nexus 4 for the native automatic profile switching based on WiFi network. Don't use pie controls. Assuming automatic profile switching makes in into aosp I'll probably go back to stock.

    Hi Guys,

I just put CM 10.2 onto my Note II and I'm quite happy with it plus the process was painless using their app and Windows software. Much easier than the days of flashing Ressurection Remix ROMs onto the SGS 1.

My son has a Nexus 7 (Xmas present) and a Motorola Moto G phone and both are on the latest 4.4.2 but there is an issue on both with Wifi where the WiFi icon in the notification bar turns amber. the devices are connected with strong signals but the icon is amber and there is no internet connection. It seems to be a 4.4.2 issue https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/VuiicK_jhc8%5B1-25-false%5D as all other devices connected to the same WiFi router have strong internet connections. I'm thinking that loading CM onto his two devices would fix the problem. Good idea / bad idea?

    Ben

It would most likely sort it but yeah that is a bug of 4.4.2, I get it on my N5, Google should be fixing it with an update very soon...

I don't know the specifics of the bug or what versions of CM are currently available for those 2 devices. Flashing CM won't necessarily fix the bug if you are going to flash a version of CM based on Android 4.4.2 (or any other version with the bug present). CM is built off Android as a base and will more than likely have the bug present unless the CM guys have fixed it themselves.

Its not a simple good idea / bad idea situation. You've nothing to lose (except time) so long as you take a backup and know what you are doing.
