3ds solid red street/spotpass light

I just got a 3ds for Christmas and the street/spotpass notification light is always solid red. I'm also getting error messages when trying to update mii plaza and for the eshop (now the eshop seems to be working)
I understand the error messages could be due to the high traffic at Christmas, but I can't find any information about the red light.
Does anyone know what it means or how to fix it?

Also when I had spotpass notifications the light colour didn't change.

That light is only red on mine when the battery is very close to dead IIRC.

Do ya know if it's solid red light because I've heard that it blinks when the battery is low. Also the screen says the battery is full and the actual battery light is blue.

The light did change colour for a spot pass notification, but it turned purple not blue (I guess due to the red still coming through?)

Right now I'm recharging it after draining the battery (playing Super Mario 3D Land :)) so that might do something.

By the way my 3DS is up to date

The power led on the front of the console, to the right of the headphone socket, which is normally blue, goes solid red when the battery is low and flashes red when it's about to drop completely

But that's not the streetpass led. That's on the right hinge. Is there a critical note in your Notification window? Maybe related to an update or network issues?

Could be a manufacturing thing, where they were all out of green less so they threw a red one in instead. Sounds stupid but it's happened before with some high profile companies...

It was the one on the hinge.

Anyway I got it replaced, it seems if that light is solid red it means the 3DS is faulty

A solid red led on my 3ds means it's low on battery, when it starts flashing it means i've got like 5 minutes to charge it.
Iin the manual, Green is streetpass, blue spotpass, orange friend just came on.

edit: Actually I might be thinking of my dsl, been playing that more recently trying to finish layton.

It was all in the manual. Green is streetpass, blue spotpass, orange friend just came on.

A solid red light on the street/spotpass notification light is not mentioned in the manual.Plus the battery was fully charged according to the blue battery light and the onscreen battery. So it was faulty. Anyway it's all sorted now.

Just for future reference this is what was happening.

Just started having the same issue with a brand new 3ds myself, from what I can tell its either from the latest update (my system was on v1.0 out of the box) or else a battery issue, may replace it for a better battery anyways, if you find a solution in the meantime let me know.

Fixed, For anyone else having this problem, just remove the battery and put it back in to get it back to normal.
