Is this a shockingly bad port?

I have just spent about 5 hours playing Ghosts on my PC (i5 2500k, 8GB RAM, 2 X 6950s in Crossfire) and whilst it's a whole lot of fun (first CoD game I've played on PC sine the first Modern Warfare so many moons ago). However, it runs like total ass, shockingly poor frame rate and that's even with all the settings turned down.

Is there something I should be doing to get it running smoothly?

Disable crossfire and see how it runs .

I have it on PC running a AMD 6 core proccesor at 3.5 GHz and 8 GB DDR3 RAM along with a nVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 at 2 GB. I'm playing on the highest settings with no signs of any lag what so ever. I'd agree with smiley and disable Crossfire and see if there is any updates for your drivers.

I'm running latest drivers, tried disabling Crossfire last night and saw some improvement especially in the "drop to 5 or 6 FPS when the level loads for about 60 seconds" department.

I can't get over it though, it's a fking ANCIENT game engine, how on earth can they have bolloxed it this badly?

Also, it's a pain in the fking hole to have to remember to run Foverly first, what fking moron thought a 65 degree FOV was acceptable for anything?

I actually have no idea what your on about.
I installed the game from the discs, ran it and everything was perfect. I didn't mess around with any settings apart from putting all the video settings up to the last. I have a fine FOV and the only lag I get is when the dynamic maps come into play, I drop to about 15 FPS for 2-3 seconds. I have no idea what is causing the lag.

The game is a mess for PC it needs a lot of patching to fix it . It says it all when you still have so many playing black ops 2 on PC . I think they should have really and truly rebuilt a new engine instead of editing the current one ! I have abot 8 hours and 30 minutes of the game played and until it's patched a lot I can't see myself playing it again in PC .

Well it was a gift, so I'm not exactly out of pocket or anything, but I see no reason to play the game at all.

TGx - I've been playing competitive FPS' for almost 15 years, I tend to play with a FOV of 110 and not having that is a major problem for me. It's well documented that Cod's was lowered because of console hardware simply not being able to cope with rendering the amount of info needed for 4 player split-screen. I don't object to that at all and I've had tons of fun with that game mode in friends houses, but to not have an option to fix it in the PC version of the game, especially when you're talking about such an old game engine that previously did have the functionality is bollocks tbh. :)

I had a lot of trouble with Battlefield 4, possibly more than I've had with CoD tbh, but it works now and is a far more flexible game overall, so I'll stick with it. If I want a CoD style game, I play 16/32 man TDM on BF4 and it scratches the same itch I'd have.

I have no hatred or dislike for the game, it's mostly frustrating for me cause I can see just how much fun it is, or at least how much fun it could be for me. It's just very disappointing that 2013 will be "the year of broken games" for me between almost everything EA released, this and a host of others that I was thankfully able to avoid (Colonial Marines and such).

I don't know man, but it works perfect for me. I know a couple of guys who might be able to look into it, I shoot them a quick message and see what I get back.

this is my single biggest complaint for the game, other are more minor ones where I struggled to get optimum graphics to my eyes. I can't remember exactly but I noticed when I played it on top level, that it looked horrible, but when I turn off/disabled some settings it was more pleasing to the eye. Never had any of this ****e Blops 2 (only played for a short period on PC) and never had this trouble with Blops 1

Are steam overlooking changes to POV for Ghosts ? i.e. not banning people ? as I was hesitant to change it for fear of a ban.

They banned people for fixing their fov?

    That's... jesus, that's just fuked.

I contacted a couple of friends who know problems like these, there is actually no way to manually fix it at the moment. Infinity Ward are working on a large patch for it on PC to fix all these known problems. All we can do is sit tight.
