Hi guys. I have a ssd that I want to install into my MacBook. I will also be replacing my optical drive with the current hd and running apps from the ssd. I have all the stuff I need ( screwdrivers, caddy etc)
Can I just copy files and install the drives? I read something about there being a problem about the ssd not having moving parts and some sudo command in terminal to fix it. I can't find the article now so just wondering if there is something else that needs to be done?
    Thanks in advance
    Happy holidays

You need a Torx #6 for the Hard Drive caddy.

You can disable the sudden motion sensor if you like and there's a hack to enable a feature called TRIM that's only in Apple branded SSDs by default but imo doing both is of questionable value.

I've had a Crucial M4 in one of my Macs and a Samsung 830 in another for years and they've been fine without any unnecessary hacks.

You need to use Disk Utility or a 3rd party backup the make a bootable image of your existing install.

It should just work, no moving parts is a good thing. Sudo is a command touring I'm a terminal to run a command with administrator privileges.

    Hi,

yes there's default program you can use I think, or you may also just copy the files needed over from the hard drive.
