Lumia 920 flickering screen

So I have just got the lumia 920 and it has only been out of the box for a couple of hours but I already have an issue. The screen is flickering/shimmering and it is really annoying. It is worst when the phone is set to max brightness and when outdoors. It also gets really bad having just hung up after a call. The best way I can think to describe it is like when a fluorescent bulb starts to flicker although it is not quite as pronounced as this. It is uncomfortable to look at for long periods of time. It isn't constant either and will stop for a while before starting again depending on lighting etc.

It's really annoying as I love the phone other than this.

I have tried soft resetting the phone in a dark room as several people online suggested but it hasn't helped. It seems to be a fairly widespread problem; if you just google "lumia 920 flickering screen" there are a load of results. Has anyone here had this problem and been able to fix it? This phone has such glowing reviews so im really disappointed in this aspect of it.

If I can't fix it myself I think I'll have to send it back to amazon and hope they send out a replacement. Also I am reluctant to try and update to GDR3 and see if that fixes it becuase as far as I know this voids the warranty.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Amazon are good to deal with for returns etc, never really an issue. You could send it in for warranty with nokia and see what they say but probably not the best option as its so new.

Is their anything covering the light sensor or the proximity sensor?

Nope nothing covering the proximity sensor. I'm kind of reluctant to send it back to amazon as I love the phone other than this annoyance. I was considering bringing it into a nokia care centre and seeing if they can do anything about it.

If I did send it back to amazon would they have to give me a replacement or what's the story. Since I bought the phone its price on amazon has gone up so getting a refund would be no good to me.

They may give a replacement ye, its never 100% what they will do, it will depend on the agent you deal with, its better not to leave it drag on, sooner you raise the issue the easier it will be to sort.

So long as you bought it through amazon (and not a 3rd party marketplace seller) and amazon are still selling it you shouldn't have a problem getting a replacement, i'd even go so far as to ask them to send the replacement out using a higher priority postal service. I've really got nothing but good things to say about amazon, especially when things go wrong, they always seem to sort you out.

I did buy it from amazon but they are no longer selling it, a third party retailer is, and the price has also gone up. Will they still give me a replacement?

Nah, it's quite unlikely that they'll be able to if they aren't getting it back in stock, best to get into a live chat with them to find out what their stock situation is and if there's anyway they can accommodate you.

If you do end up going the Nokia care route please take pictures of every inch of your phone before handing it over to them. My own L920 had to go into them for a minor issue and the fixed unit came back with a deep scratch on the screen, scuffs on the body (presumably from a drop) and chips on the frame from where they must of had trouble removing the screen. They weren't in anyway apologetic, and it was a long fight to even get the scratched screen replaced! Body's still dented and chipped though.

just fyi you can get a replacement oem housing for the 920 on ebay, including tools, for approx 20 euro. Available in white, red, cyan, black etc. Videos on youtube will walk you through the procedure. I did this myself over Xmas as my old matte black housing had suffered some amount of abuse. Now I've the white glossy housing and its pretty nice (and a bit grippier). I think it does invalidate your warranty but I've had my 920 over a year now anyway.
