Lads, I have a 2000 focus that I wanna sell. It has 3 months tax but no nct (nct been out 15 months)

It has a few problems like air bag light has come on recently and you'd need a new set of tyres to pass the nct.

On the plus side it has alloys, 2 new rear tyres, engine is bullet proof and the interior is spotless for a 00

I bought it failry cheap and drive it for just over a year. I got a new colt so don't want the bother of sorting it for a test. What should I ask for it?

    would i get 350- 400??

    Mileage?

€5-700 should clear it out quick enough.

If there is nothing wrong with the car you should be getting over 600.

About 6 months ago I bought a 2000 Focus. It was no beauty queen (bonnnet paint looked a bit patchy/faded) and paid.. i think.. 900. It was listed at 1150 if i recall.

But it had a pretty fresh NCT. I wouldn't touch a car without a valid NCT. Especially not one that's been out for so long. There could literally be anything wrong with the car, and anyone paying that kind of money for a car wont have the additional funds to bring out a mechanic with them.

So I'd imagine if you got an NCT for it, you'd be dooing yourself a big favour in terms of sale price.

And out of curiousity, as the NCT is only valid for a year, and if you let it lapse by a few months, the expiry date doesn't come forward with it, does that mean you'll have to get this car to pass the NCT twice to get an in-date NCT disc? (seems silly?).

i just want to get rid mate. Don't need the hassle of nct.

I know it'll need the air bag light sorted and then the tyres. Plus any other little niggly things that could be wrong with it..

By the time i got tyres and that you'd be talking a good few $$$. which is why I don't mind letting it go cheap.. Be delighted with 450

You will not need to test the car twice. The cars test will be backdated to the anniversary of its registration unless its first registration is in the next 3 months in which case you will get over a year of test.

OP might be worth booking a test and see what happens. A buyer would be more interested in an honest lad who says it failed on these things rather than just saying it has no NCT.

I would mate but money is very tight and the colt I bought still needs a bit of bodywork done before I drive it..

Do you think there is anyway she would pass?
the car will be worth a few hundred more with test so it is kinda catch 22.

With or without test stick it up on donedeal for 900 euro. If nobody rings you in a week or so drop 50 off the asking price and continue til it is gone.

Best of luch and happy christmas

As I said mate the airbag light would need to be sorted (god knows what that'd cost) plus tyres which would probably cost a good few bob aswell. Then waiting to get a date for the nct and then the price of the test.

I'd sooner sell the focus and put the money into the colt.. That's why I never nct'd the focus. just never had the money. I did put new tyres and serviced it when I first bought it but that's about it..

Have to say they are a great little car though and seem to go for crazy money with the nct and tax on them.

There is a multiplug under the seat. Sometimes unpluging it and plugging in again sorts the airbag light. It can come on by itself, going over a ramp or crest of a hill can trigger it.

There might be a real issue with it though, but I would try the multiplug first. The other thing to do would be to disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes to reset everything. Hope this helps.

I messed around with the wires under the seats but obviousally it didn't work. I might try the battery though.

I bought a 1.6 Zetec Focus with no NCT - the test drive and check-over told me she'd have little or no trouble getting through the test. €500 - 600 is my recommendation - for what it's worth.

I'd stick it up at €500 listing the above issues and see what offers you get.

I'd get more to scrap it considering I'd get the tax back on it. Plus the cat and alloys.

Car has a lot of rust around wheel arch and bottom of doors that would need to be taken care of.

I'd stick it on adverts.ie for €700. Be done as said above.

Nobody will buy a car for €700 with air bag light on and full of rust and no nct, also nearly 14 years old and if its a 1.4 standard lx engine then it's prone to engine failure.

Iv'e had many Focus and love the cars but seriously carzony your in the right ball park at around €400 or less.
