I can't decide between going for an amd CPU (6300/8320) and getting a r9 280x or going for an intel cpu (4570) and getting a r9 270x

    1. What is your budget? About 620

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Mainly gaming and general use

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? no

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? 500gb hdd and disc drive

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5a. If yes, what size do you need.

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 1920 x 1080 philips 32" TV

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Maybe in the future

    8. How can you pay? Any method

    9. When are you purchasing? Next month

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Won't need help

Well the decision between FX and Intel isn't the hardest one. It usually depends on how you feel about overclocking. The Amd processors will overclock to match and often outperform their Intel competitors at a cheaper price allowing four the increased gpu budget. The overclock will need some consideration about cooling and stuff but the lads would be well able to help you on that front.

I'll put together a build tomorrow and see what I can suggest

Thanks a bunch by the way, and merry Christmas!
I have no problem over clocking, I just presumed I would need a bigger budget to fit in a heatsink that would allow a reasonable overclock.

You may need a small but extra but the Fx are cheaper anyway so that's partly covering the heat sink

    Happy Christmas pal

Hmm I'd say a few of the experienced lads on here would disagree. In terms of bang for buck Amd stand up. If we had loads of money I'm sure we'd all run a top i5 but we're working within budgets

So which would you recommend, going for an i5 4570 and getting an r9 270x or getting a 6300 and getting an r9 280x?
