I am just asking is it actually possible in real life in maybe the future to create a terminator. I am asking this because I am noticing how advanced technology has become of late with things like drones and all the robots that are being used by amazon. not to mention all the research going over at places like DARPA. how would one end up constructing such a thing in real life or at least something close to it. I think it be much more of a engineering question imo.

I think the bigger question is why someone would want to.. Humans are not a very good design.
Predator drones are scarier than terminators.

To answer your question... Not very well right now, but in 15 years.. Maybe a T800

    Not a T1000.

If you want to learn about "real Terminators" have a look at this book:

Makes for a very interesting read.

Unmanned Ground Vehicles are already being developed, and I believe in use on a small scale, they're controlled remotely by humans though and they look more like quad bikes with big guns on top

Also, Boston dynamics just got bought by Google.

There is your massive computer network and death robot factory tied together

Yeah that stuff is scary, genuinely scary!

Simply put the process to design a Terminator has begun, will it achieve fruition is a different story but there is a lot of money and know how behind them.

There is a lobby group, i can't remember their name, but they are a technology lobby group aimed at stopping inventions before they get invented. With the money and power behind DARPA, Google, and Boston Dynamics they've no chance though.

Take a look at their current robots http://www.bostondynamics.com/index.html

This is actually a very topical issue. There is growing concern among computer scientists at the lack of an international agreement on controlling autonomous weapons development\deployment:

    Here's a documentary in Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zP7yP8hdLE

It talks about how Fukushima meltdown could have been avoided if they had a robot capable of turning off the values in the plant, post earthquake.

Seems there's now a DARPA led push to design a humanoid robot as a rescue vehicle for disasters. Unfortunately most of the criteria for this disaster bot could easily be applied to a combat bot including a 'hold a tool to break through a wall' specification. The tool looks very much like a machine gun.

Maybe we should design an anti killer robot robot.
