Its been a good year and can't wait to get going in 2014

    Happy Xmas to all

I don't think Santa's coming this December. So far in 2013 I've taken on the following.

    Clicgear 3.5 trolley
    Mits for Clicgear trolley
    Bushnell Tour V2
    MP-H4 3-iron to replace the hybrid I couldn't hit
Odyssey #5 Damascus LE that I brought back from a business trip to Tokyo
A shag bag and 5 dozen Pro V1 practice balls to fill it
    2014 membership in Roganstown

Pretty sure I've used all my Xmas wishes in 2013

I got the wet weather gear, and also a McGuirks voucher and a Wilson Prostaff HL driver. Goes with my 3 and 5 wood. This just after I bought an R1. I'll use it to try and get more consistent with the driver.

If it's dry then you are in for a treat. The fairways drain well so expect very tight lies. Any wind (within reason) just adds to the challenge.

    Enjoy.

I've always been entirely skeptical about the value of a distance measuring device to someone of my ability (HC14). There are plenty of distance markers on the sprinkler heads and I really only need to have a accurate measure to within 10 yds, so why bother getting one.
Then my son gets one (Garmin S1) for Christmas and I tried it out on Tuesday.
All the things I said above are true but what I hadn't realized is just what a benefit of knowing the distance to the back of the green is. Suddenly I'm not 2nd guessing my club selection, but picking a club that I am confident will not put me over the back of the green and it makes a great difference to my ability to commit to the shot.
    I WANT ONE!!!!!

I was the same until I tried one and you just realise how hard it is to judge the right distances. It makes you really see how far it is to the back of greens when compared to markers to the front.

Great deals available at the moment in McGuirks it has to be said

Just noticed garmin s1 and golf buddy wt3 mentioned, its other halfs birthday soon and was thinking of getting him one as surprise, I had thought about the s1 as hes an occasional golfer but then brother in law had me swaying towards s3, I rang mcguirks to get some info and guy there had me thinking the wt3 would be way to go. Any advice??

I have the S1 and would recommend it.
If the OH is an occasional golfer then I wouldn't spend any more than the 100 or so that the S1 is at present.

There's very little difference in functionality between S1 & S3. Not enough to justify the price difference anyway.

If you play on a course like ours where some greens are around 30 yards long nearly 3 clubs then the laser is much better.
    Bought one of these.

The laser is obviously more accurate but the S1 gives front, middle and back distances.
Played with a guy with a laser last weekend and my "guess" based on the watch was within yards of the laser.
    Certainly good enough for me.

However I would say a low HC'er would benefit from the laser more.

Anyone see any good offers still available. Looking for a distance measuring device. Dont think I could cope with a laser, would just end up putting me off I think. Thinking of the Garmin S1 for €139 in McGuirks.

No offers but if they had it down at €105 before, you probably could get them down to that again. Or keep an eye out for any 20% sales that they seem to have regularly enough.

Well I'm sure that will let you make a few nice contributions to the golf photos thread, not sure how much it will add to your game though?

I thought this was a 'what's santa bringing' thread, if you go back to page 1 it has all sorts of items on it. When did it change into a golf only thread?
