Information on Milk Maids

    Hi

I was wondering could anyone help me?

I am doing some research for some creative writing and looking for information on the job of the Milk Maid in the 1800's.

From what I found (Wikipedia), she was hired from outside the general servants.

So was she a type of sole trader?

The milk she milked did go directly to the household or she keep it and make cheese. Did she sell the cheese or milk?

If anyone has any links for books or internet it would be great.

    Thanks
