Help! Negative performance

My immediate colleagues at work are much different than I am. They value social more than there job, and are content to leave when they are able. I am a hard worker, want to learn new things, and travel away from our office frequently. The more I hear from others, the more I realize our department is flying under the radar and not doing many things we should. That concerns me, because my job security is negatively affected by those things we are not doing. I have talked about them with my department, with no result. In response, I have begun to travel more and distance myself from them ... However, now I am blamed for a lack of communication with them. I feel like I am between a rock and a hard place - I can't trust them to do good work, and am rarely in the same city as them, so I frequently work on projects by myself so I know they get done and are done well. My boss is all about collaboration, even if that is not quite how he manages. I have expressed my frustration about my coworkers to my boss, and how they lack follow through on any projects ... With supporting evidence, but he continues to side on the whole collaboration aspect and I have been disciplined. I am working on a transfer to another part of our company, away from my colleagues to those whose work ethic I respect much more but I am concerned my boss will try to block it or bad mouth me so I am stuck and he can fire me.

How is it possible he can view a two people who do nothing but socialize as more valuable than a hard worker? How do I work towards gaining my transfer without my boss being negative towards me? I have numerous positive relationships with others in different parts of our company.

There is a business practise called "Managing upwards". This is where you learn to how to fully utilise your boss so you can get your job done and your career progressed.

There are a number of "don't do" in managing upwards, and reading your description you are doing most of them.

    - Don't go behind your bosses back.
    - Don't undermine your boss with others in the company (or outside for that matter).
    - Don't blindside your boss with actions he is not aware of. Example going for other jobs without telling him first.
    - Don't be disloyal
    - Execute all actions that your boss asks you to do.

Loads of books on the subject but Here is an article on it.

As for him blocking your career move. No (qualified) manager is going to stop a report from progressing their career. However your actions towards your manager can be discussed with the manager you are moving to. Which is why it's important not to undermine your boss.
