I cant believe Irish Rail don't provide the option to change the travel date on a ticket. Is this a new policy? Ive been told that I need to cancel my existing ticket and re-book. So not only do I not receive a full refund (80%), but I have to re book a new ticket at the more expensive price. Not to mention more transaction and card fees. Tickets now costing me twice what I paid initially, just to travel a day earlier!

I'd say you are lucky to get a refund...try that one on Ryanair!

Clearly the OP didn't read the terms and conditions when booking.

How much will they charge for you and two bags of presents for the last flight home tonight? :)

Thing is I don't want a refund, I just want to change the date of travel!

And as far as I can see, the term and conditions only state how I can change the time of travel on same day, not the date.

The special prices that are charged on the website are subject to quotas on each train, when the quota for each discounted fare is reached the fares go upto the next price band

By buying a special offer ticket, you are agreeing to travel on a particular train. An 80% refund due to you changing your mind is actually quite generous on Irish Rails part
