A brief introductory overview of the longbow and a bit about my longbow.
I apologise for the sound quality being faint and poor, it was a distance from the camera and the Irish wind was whipping about. :)

Longbows (Holmguard variants) were first found in Denmark in 9,000 BC! This predates the first swords by over 5,000 years!

Our ancestors typically favored missile-weapons (cast weapons not the rocket type ;) before closing in for the kill...

The javelin was more popular historically with the Kerns / Irish folk but newcomers often brought bows with them from the Tuatha De Danann and Milesians up to the Normans and certain Anglo-Irish folk ;)

A typical wood in Eire that is useful for making a bow is from the Ash tree...

In Wales the longbows tended to be made from the Elm Tree which was up to 80 to 90 lb in draw-weight. It's power shocked even the Normans who themselves used large forces of archers and crossbowmen.
