    Hi Folks,

A gang of us are looking to go Snowboarding in March but were a bit concerned with the snow volume then. Are there any reccomendations for a decent resort with high altitude and which has consistently good snow as we dont want to be sludging it?

    thanks

Mid March is generally the best snow depths in the alps. You should be fine in 80% of the resorts. A few suggestions below

    Mayrhofen/ hintertux

    Verbier

    ST Anton

    Val disere

    Tignes

Rule of thumb if most of the skiing is above 1,800 you will be sorted.

Dr Nic, it and tignes close in the first/2nd week of May normally so you should be ok!!! Get in touch with Karl83 on here, he is doing a season with Highlife out there so he is on the ground and will know what conditions are like.

Austrian snow can be at its best in March even in low resorts.

    Bad Gastein

or Kaprun at higher altitude is really snow sure.

If you really really want to be sure, ski in the US/Canada.

Kind off the snow depths in March are the best in nearly any Northern hemisphere ski resort the problem with lower resorts is that the depths up high are really good but lower the snow is heavy and wet

There are plenty if 2,000 meter plus resorts in Europe with excellent skiing right up too April

i'm looking at going march 8th - 15th and thinking i'd like to do a ski trip with a bit more comfort this year, ie stay in a hotel with a pool or spa / thermal suite etc. has anyone done this and it not cost them a fortune?

so requirements are...snow sure, nice hotel with leisure facilities, not crazy expensive. should be easy right? :D

mr spuckler Austria! Mayrhofen has a few that would tick the box as would Saalbach,

    thanks fattes!

1 other problem that i forgot to mention is that we always try to go to new places each year. so that rules out

    sauze d'oulx
    la thuile
    bormio
    livigno
    cervinia
    mayrhofen
    alpe d'huez

don't know whether to say  or :D to that!

Saalbach, normally good late deals, Champery in the Port Du Soleil maybe but its in Swiss land so a bit pricey when there!

Pila in Italy would be another option the Aosta valley is epic and Aosta itself is a beautiful roman town! The only chain shops in town are for the phone companies!!! But its a 30 -40 min gondola ride up in the AM, from the town, you can stay at the top but the gondola back up closes at 6 and its about 100 Euro up in a taxi!!!! If you can live with quiet the top is ok

anytime i've ever looked at saalbach it's been very expensive. when you say late deals i presume you mean through one of topflight / directski / crystal?

i did an away day from cervinia to pila last year and found it quite small for more than a day or 2, great skiing though tbf!

mr spuckler Yeah some TO will do good late deals, especially if you are willing to go from Belfast, Yep pila is small but the pass covers a few resorts in the Aosta valley, and a day in Chamonix I think - Not sure about the last bit.

    thanks for the advice :D

the best thing about going to pila last year was that cervinia ended up being shut for the day that we were away having a great days skiing!

Pila is cool in the sense that it gets decent snow is normally quite and the piste are pretty much designed for charging hard and fast!!!

i can't remember the name / numbers of the 2 reds that lead to the top of the gondola but i must have spent the last 2 hours of our day there just blasting down those!

The are actually two Super G /GS pists that get used for FIS races and Eurotesting! They are QUALITY!!!!

haha, i'm in good company so!

next up, after watching ski sunday last weekend, i'll have to go back to bormio and try the full length of the stelvio piste :D

Yeah I have been that soldier!!! Have done it, the Khandahar (Chamonix), Streiff (Kithzbul) Andermatt,s and Tignes Super G piste all under race conditions full injection etc!

You need Balls like bowling balls and someone to hold your brain to do it at WC speeds!!!
