Egr valve replacement cost

Looking for some advice on the labour involved in replacing an egr valve. My car is currently in a garage having a cv hint replaced at a cost of 200 euro (not sure whether that's standard but am in no position to argue as the car isn't going anywhere til it's done) but while there I asked whether they could fit a new egr valve which I had in the boot.

Initially I was told that the egr would cost 30 quid to replace but then today I was told it would be 100. I was shocked and said as much to which I was told its a job that involves 2 hours work but I was only being charged for an hour and a half. I had been lead to believe, by a mechanic friend of mine, that it was a 30 minute job - a fact reaffirmed by some online research.

Told them not to bother replacing it as I couldn't afford another 100 on top the 200 for the cv joint replacement.

Kind of feel like calling them on trying to fleece me but obviously won't if they're being genuine and the labour involved is worth the 100.

    Any thoughts?

Find an indy to replace the EGR, they are usually quite accessible and shouldn't take long. Should cost you €40-60 to get it changed.

It's a 01 golf. Maybe it needs programming but as I said a friend who recently serviced the car and cleaned the egr said it would take 30 mins.

I had to replace one in a 01 Accord last year and was charged €70 for the EGR Valve (2nd hand) and €35 to fit.
