Help! New build from HWV appears DOA?

I purchased a PC inc. assembly from Hardwareversand a few weeks ago as a Christmas present for my young lad.

It is all new from them except for the hard drive which I had one spare already.

I've only just got around to install the HD and load up windows.

But when I go to power it up it is completely lifeless. The power supply is a Corsair CX430 V3. The switch on the back of the power supply is on and I was using the power cable from my own PC to test it with which I know works so I don't know what the problem can be (apart from suspecting that it's a faulty power supply).

It's the first time I have purchased a PC like this I don't know if I have missed something?

All I have done is to connect the SATA cables to the HD. Everything else appears to have been pre-connected.

When connecting power to the power supply I would have expected some LED or click or whir or something but it is completely lifeless.

Is there something I'm missing or do I have a faulty power supply?

Make sure that all the leads are connected properly from the power supply to the motherboard and see if that helps.

Did they send the motherboard manual? Locate the 24 pin 12v atx cable ,and 4 (or 8) pin CPU 12v power and check that they are properly instaled , also check that the cables for the case power switch are ok as well.

    Thanks for your reply.

I disconnected and reconnected the leads to the motherboard but it hasn't made any difference still completely lifeless.

Should there not be some led or noise from the power supply when it is powered up?

Here are two photos showing all the connections to the motherboard.

I took the graphics card out to take the photos and disconnected and reconnected everything I could see.

    Still no joy.

you double check the little fiddley motherboard connectors for power/reset/hd led/power leds etc? probably need the motherboard manual for it

All they have given me is a "quick installation guide" but after a quick look at that I found that they had not connected the 24 pin ATX cable.

Connected that up and it is now powering up.

    Panic over (I hope).

Now hopefully I can load Win 7 on it.

Thanks for all the help and season's greetings to all.

wouldn't expect noise from a good psu and it may just have no leds on a more budget oriented unit like the cx.

I'd probably just take the whole lot out of the case and start with just the board, cpu and one stick of ram,on a table and only attaching the 24 pin , 4/8 pin cpu connector and the CPU fan. Jump start it using the two power swith pins on the board and a screwdriver.

If that doesn't work try the same using the psu from your other build.

Edit: Too slow typing on this phone, glad all is sorted :)

The CX430 Coil whines on boot for me but after that its pretty close to silent.

All in favour of adding a big warning to all the stickys to advise against letting HWVS build your rig? They've proven time and time again to be useless at it...

Yeah makes me wonder what I paid €5 for! :D

Win 7 all loaded up now and good to go, just need to de-activate on his old PC and activate the new installation on Christmas morning and the jobs done, thanks again for all the assistance.
