    First off merry xmas everyone.

My 2006 1.6 fsi started running rough 2 days ago. Thankfully only 5 mins from home so its parked up since then. Googled and came up with ignition coils. Question is this, I pulled 4 coils and cyl 1&4 are clean. Where as 2 is gooey and 3 starting to go gooey. Now if i replace all of them do i need to reset anything. As in will car start now that i have pulled the coils off the plugs? Obviously i mean when new ones fitted and not with 4 leads lying on rocker cover...:P

    Cheers

You really need to get a scan done with VAG-COM or VCDS. It's not necessarily the ignition coils causing the problem. A scan will tell you for sure. A couple of new coils could be up to €80 and is money wasted if that's not the problem.

Any decent mechanic should be able to diagnose this for you.

    Cheers for the response.

As it is not firing on all cylinders i am worried of destroying the cat converter driving it. But seeing how the coils on 1 and 4 are perfect and coil 2 are oozing resin would it not bee a fair indication that this is the problem? Might call to local mechanic to see if he would take a look.
