How do you interpret a Sten score?

junior's school report arrived today and there was an additional sheet with a Micra-T Reading Attainment (Aged Based Sten 10) and Sigma-T Mathematics Attainment (Sten 10). Does it have any particular meaning? I can tell from the percentile and comments that he did well, just not sure what the Sten scale is apart from knowing its some from of a distribution curve.

Another line in the Micra-T was aged based Standard score >130 and class based Standard score >130 and in the Sigma-T there was Standard Score >130?? again what is this measure?

    Thanks in advance!

Sten is basically scores from 1-10 with 5/6/7 being average. Scoring tens means a child is above average!

Sten 10 is the highest possible score. Scores of > 130 in standard scores means the child scored above what the test could rate them , again the best possible score. ncca.ie has more info.
