Irish Residency Card - Waiting for Confirmation Letter

Hello, I am a British citizen living and working in Ireland, my husband is Brazilian and joined me in Ireland on September 30th this year. When we went to the immigration office to register his arrival we were told that we had to apply for a residence card first and then we could come back to register and get his passport stamped. It took us a while to find permanent accomodation in Ireland and get all the paperwork required for the residence card application and we didn't get it sent off until the beginning of this month (Dec). We were told it would take two weeks to get the confirmation letter and all the documents back so we didn't think this would be a problem.

It has now passed two weeks and we have not recieved any correspondance back and all of our documents and passports are still with them. I realise that with the christmas opening times that we won't recieve anything back until new year. The problem is that the current stamp in my husbands passport expires on December the 30th so we are unsure of what to do.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks
