I have came across a few different types on my travels, and the following is based on my experiences in setting up, tuning in etc...
This thread is meant to be of help to anyone considering buying one.

Sony - by far the sleekest and most user friendly I have came across. Top of the list.

LG - easy enough to tune and set up although the process of arranging the channels in a proper list is very trying. To switch between Irish and satellite channels involves a number of button presses which can get annoying.

Walker - can be very difficult to tune as some tvs don't seem to have all the transponder settings for 28.2 and therefore doesn't tune in all the channels it should.

    Finlux - see above.

I have not came across any tv yet which facilitates the Saorview and satellite channels on the same list, switching is always involved.

I have a Panasonic TV TX-L42D25L and it's really easy to set up and switching between sat and DTV is just one button press.

Those Vestel TV's (Walker, etc) are slow has hell to tune! And yeah, I notice some will tune in all the channels, some ignore quite a lot.

I browsed through the user manual on Friday though, and noticed it said you can download SatcoDX data to the TV (not sure if all SatcoDX data is the same file type, or whether I need to choose a specific file type like XML or whatever), which might be quicker if I can get around to trying it sometime.

    Hi folks, looking for advice.

I have sky plus in our sitting room with a 2nd basic box in playroom. We have our wireless upc hooked up to sky box for the on-demand options..

Now I'm looking to reduce my sky bill.. Do I just buy one of these digital satellite boxes, downgrade my sky to the basic cheapest option, hook the box up to sky box and away I go? Will this effect the tv in playroom, will I need to go on roof to set up dish. Any advice on what I should do greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you plan to replace one of the Sky boxes?
Are you planning to replace it with a combi Saorview/satellite TV or STB?

I was thinking I could keep the sky boxes wit the basic package. Then hook the box from internet to tv to get the channels. Maybe I'm way off lol

You must have some idea of what you're after. What do you mean by 'digital satellite box'? Which channels do you want to get with it?

I saw on Facebook a guy selling a tv box with hundreds of channels. Not one of the illegal boxes, this thing is legit.. I don't know what's out there? What price range

Unless you want foreign channels, all the 'legit' free-to-air stuff will already be there on your basic Sky package.

They are not legit, anything that allows you receive premium channels such as sky sports and pay tv channels are illegal ...
