A few homes over the past few days where there has been thunder and lightning here in South Donegal, I've had to replace LNB's. I'd doubt they got direct lightning strikes, so assuming it was maybe the electrical energy in the atmosphere? One house had a Sky+ box and 2 Standard boxes, all connected to phone. His quad had blown and his Sky+ wouldn't fire up at all, though the 2 standard wave-type boxes are fine.

Had 3 calls in Cobh yesterday , all with dead Lnbs , amazingly all the boxes were ok .

    all connected to phone.

Anything connected to both phoneline and mains at the same time is especially vulnerable, as it will 'jump' from mains to phoneline causing destruction.

If possible disconnect phoneline from Skyboxes during electrical storms (even if you continue to use skybox)

Just recently a cordless phone basestation failed (the only thing in the house to fail) from a lightning strike very nearby. It failed in a manner which left the phoneline in the 'off-hook' condition which prevented incoming/outgoing calls (a second ordinary phone on the line was undamaged) and caused some confusion that there was also a fault at the exchange. Disconnecting the blown DECT basestation from phoneline restored normal operation on the ordinary telephone also connected.

My young lads lost their PS3 console together with the 40" tv on Sunday after a short lightning storm here.

What if the boxes are wifi? as we had quite a lot of lightning & thunder this morning, but thankfully nothing happened.
