Historic Third Vatican Council

The Third Vatican Council concluded today with Pope Francis announcing that Catholicism is now a “modern and reasonable religion, which has undergone evolutionary changes. The time has come to abandon all intolerance. We must recognize that religious truth evolves and changes. Truth is not absolute or set in stone. Even atheists acknowledge the divine. Through acts of love and charity the atheist acknowledges God as well, and redeems his own soul, becoming an active participant in the redemption of humanity.”

I'm atheist but after reading this, I have to say, I have developed quite a respect for the new pope. He seems to have recognized many of the evils within the church and is trying his best to change it. Fair play to him. I'm just hoping the backlash of this isn't too great from the extremists.

The new pope can declare the church as all warm and fuzzy all he likes but has it really changed? it is really, as he said, modern and free from all intolerances?

    I don't think so anyway.

If that pope was black he'd be a saint by now.

Not only is it a spoof but judging from some of the other articles on that website, its purpose isn't to satirise the RC church but to satirise the liberal left.

There has been no Third Vatican council (it would be huge news if there had been) and I can't find any credible source indicating that those remarks were actually said by Pope Francis?

Wagging his finger sternly with righteous indignation
    Sounds legit.

Given the history of the 20thC has been the most bloodsoaked in history given the excesses of totalitarian progressvie regimes and that the Church has preached against this as a voice against the extremists of state power who would have the person as a mere cog in the machine-state.

You have been had! There has not been a Third Vatican Council. This story "broke" on a satirical website.

Seems to me that it's nothing more than a cheap shot at non believers.
Him and his vile religion cannot tell me I acknowledge god just because he says so.
