Hey guys, im considering upgrading my MSI Twin FrozR GTX 660ti.
Since its still a very good card capable of running BF4 everything ultra except AA and HBAO the upgrade needs to be worth it in terms of performance and value if at all possible.
No point paying big bucks for a relatively small performance increase so im thinking along the lines of gtx 780 or R9 290 if they in a similar league? so to speak and if they offer a nice performance increse.

Anything new coming out in the new year maybe that might be worth waiting on? Im not in any great hurry.

Rest of my spec is pretty good,
    i5 2500k @4.5ghz
    8GB G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1600MHz
    Crucial M4 SSD
    OCZ Vertex SSD
    Samsung Spinsoft HDD
    Corsair 600W PSU

Well for one r9 available cards are pretty bad cooling /noise.... so maybe pick up the Asus version in New year when they are for sale. Seem much better bang for buck over the 780.

Im considering ordering either a 780 or R9 290 in the next week or two.
Anything coming later in the year that might be worth holding off for?

You should wait until aftermarket coolers are out properly for 290's as they will be much better cards then going by what happened with the 290x dcu ii.
This may even force nvidias hand again and they may drop 780's, if so they could be extremely good deals :)

Im seeing some 290`s from Asus and MSI amongst others on scan and overclockers, are they what you mean by aftermarket coolers?
Or or they just standard 290`s coming from asus and msi etc?

I would wait until reviews are out for this:
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-334-AS
I'm sure if its anywhere near as good as the 290x version of it, it would be an awesome card and well worth buying.

Those are all reference coolers. You can tell just by looking - the non-reference coolers will have multiple fans.

In fairness, I would just wait for Spring.

660ti still quite good for few months. 780 and 290 does not really look like a huge jump for the investment.

I think you'd be crazy to upgrade now considering that the current card is nearly maxing bf4

Yeah your right guys, im going to hold off a while.
Theres nothing out there i cant play at ultra, ok i might drop AA to get a constant 60-80 fps but its still a very nice card.
