Play music from laptop - through XBMC on Pi/TV

Is it possible to play music on say Youtube or iTunes on my laptop but have it stream through XBMC on the Pi?

Or even a 'remote control' application for my laptop that will let me use the keyboard to search. I'm aware of the XBMC Media Centre accesses through the browser but it's a bit crap and only has an onscreen controller that you need to use with the mouse.

There's a YouTube plug in for XBMC. Also why not allow XBMC access the content on your laptop drive and play it that way?

Plenty of apps e.g. Yatse that you can get for your phone that will act as a remote.

I have the Youtube plugin, and an XBMC remote on my phone. I'd like to be able to use my keyboard/mouse on my laptop to control XBMC though.

I don't believe that this is possible.

I haven't used the YT app on XBMC for a while. Worth checking in you can pair your laptop - you can then select videos on the laptop and play them onto your screen.

That would be cool. I know you can do it on a 360 with your phone.

I've found a way to output a stream from VLC player, you then save the link to that in a .strm file and add that to your library. That lets me play movies (and presumably music files) on my laptop (or watch streams) and have them play on the TV.

    I haven't tried it, but
System - Services - Remote Control - Allow programs on other systems control XBMC

seems like it is what you want ....... if you have a suitable application on the laptop I suppose.

There is also Allow control of XBMC via HTP ..... under Webserver

Have you tried either of those?
(I haven't but they seem to be what you are looking for)

EDIT: Just checked and the web interface via a browser works as expected

    ;)

The web interface under a browser just allows you to use a terrible on-screen remote control, not the keyboard or anything.

Anyway I found a browser-extension letting you send a YT video to the pi for playback, which is pretty cool.

Glad you found a solution that suits you .......... are you going to tell the rest of us what it is?

"Play to XBMC" on Chrome. There are alternatives too.
