Hi all have a 1.1m dish on a motor and need to replace motor soon as its well battered at this stage must be 3 or 4 years old but i live in ballycullen dublin and wind can be strong and plays havoc now and again with signal just looking for advice on triax 88cm dish would it make much of a difference in wind compared to 1.1m thanks in advance

I would go for the Televes 1.1mtr, it`s more heavy duty,
if i remember the Triax has that weak back adjustment thing...

Never had any problems with the triax dishes, have a 1.1metre dish myself for nearly 10 yrs now and it still looks like new.

decdev, what make is current dish? are you sure its 1.1m? If you want to go smaller say what sats you like? 88triax will not be as good for signal ie getting some sats.

You can see the wind load figures for Triax dishes here: http://www.triax.co.uk/upload/satellitereceptionjuly13.pdf (Don't know how you are at translating Newtons at a certain wind speed into real life.)

What motor do you have now & what are you thinking of replacing it with? If you can't receive the satellites you want with a smaller dish, you can at least look for the best possible motor to handle the dish you already have.

well its a moteck motor but needs replacing was gonna get a metal gear one of sorts maybe technomate 2600 and yes the dish is 1.1m
and as for sats well 28,23.5,19,16,13,east main ones and also 0.8 west, and 30 west
have dish 3-4 years folks but every winter gets a battering hence the reason to go smaller but when i say battering like if i mess with the usals on the box i can still watch tv but in the last week ive had to change my usals setting by 2 full degrees to get signal from 6.3 to 4.4

thats a good motor and wind can affect all dishes. I'd say you have made your mind up but I am in the west with a triax 1.1m above roofline and it gets a battering. I use a superior dark motor and its good and quiet. Up over 6 years now. I use it with a spiderbox 9000hd. You could check lnb arm ie make sure it is good and tight, same for dish and motor mountings, they can spin ever so slightly. a TRIAX88CM would get you all the sats and yes less wind but will still wobble, these recent winds are severe. I will park dish at 8west tonight so its dead straight and that is its strongest point. And I use a black ultra. check out that dark motor.
