Ok well you could always try telling him the will not be suitable for your needs and you were wrongly advised by staff it was suitable.

But if that is not your bag. Find out exactly what the PSU make model number is explain your intentions to upgrade. You need at least a 400 w PSU with PCI express connections. Hopefully the staff will have a clue. Remember you are parting with over 600 euro here. You could have got one built here for that price without the need to spend more on another graphics card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

You are.gonna pay 620 on that then were gonna drop another 200 on a Gpu 800 Euro would have got you a good gaming pc if done through here. Just keeping you informed.

Yeah I had a feeling this was the case. Will look some more see if I can find PSU specifications.

    ok thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,767 ✭✭✭SterlingArcher

Ok azza looked couldn't find the information. You will need to ask the staff if it is capable of a Gpu upgrade. And need to have a PSU with PCI express power connections to connect to an upgraded graphics card.

Just so you are aware, once you have not opened the product, or in this case even left the shop with it. you are entitled to a full refund no questions asked. As stated on currys website. In case you decide to leave till after xmass. Maybe explain to your folks.

    Anyway hope this helps.

Compatible? No. Pretty sure the PC will only accept low-profile cards, thus very much limiting you.

Azzo if this is correct this computer will be a serious waste of money. As in not for gaming. G

The graphics card in it is a NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 which should be good enough tbh but im open to correction on it.

It depends on what games. You might get playable frame rates on games that are a few years old once you lower the resolution to 720p.

As a modern gaming machine though, pretty hopeless.

The best low profile card you can get I think is the 7750, not the worst and for most single player games, medium-ish at 720p should be OK, but really I would go back to PC World and, if they won't give a refund, at the very least get a regular ATX case machine, which can be far more easily upgraded. What you've chosen there is literally the worst choice you could have made with gaming in mind!

"As well as providing speedy processing, the iMedia S 2870 includes an NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card with dedicated memory which helps to provide fantastic-looking graphics, ideal when you're watching your favourite DVD on the built-in DVD drive."

    yikes

That's good, PC world may sell some poor hardware but it sounds like they are an ok company to deal with.

Okay mate well then you are best off ordering parts that are in stock because otherwise there will be a delay in receiving your new machine. There are always alternatives. Which parts are out of stock atm?

I'd hold on for one of the lads to post a build for you, they really know their stuff and will get you the best for your money altough to be fair you havent done a bad job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Azzo5687

yes! all the parts are in stock

Don't order pre-built from hwvs, they always mess it up (see other threads on this forum).

Expect to have to take it all apart and build it yourself.

They do mess up but it might be easier for the lad to only fix a couple of power cables than build from scratch

Get hardwareversand to do it. It's 5 euro now to get them to build. I got three built of them and never had any problems except a loose cable. They do the nitty gritty work which I couldn't be bothered doing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,157 ✭✭✭srsly78

Loose cable is a big problem for clueless people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

And when the cable snags a fan and causes a big mess its even more hassle. Its a good skill to learn, spend an afternoon, do it slow, learn and have fun, and know how to fix things later if needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 626 ✭✭✭Seaaan

It's not hard, watch a few videos, read up on the aspects of building which others refer to as being difficult etc

  • Site Banned Posts: 91 ✭✭batman88

    Add this to your basket

I think most people can distinguish between cpu, ram, graphics card if anything ever goes wrong. I frickin hate putting a pc together, 3 pcs from hardwareversand and one loose cable was the only problem although I do go over everything before switching it on.
